Smallest good caliber gun for carry?

Wuz on a jury, one time. The coroner's report said that any of the five HydraShoks from a snubbie .38 would have been fatal.

The whole deal happened to be taped. "Bang, bang...bang, bang, bang." And a thump.

(We found the accused Not Guilty. His daughter did it, and it all actually looked like self-defense, anyway.)

Any handgun in a service caliber (9x19) that you can shoot well is a good choice. Personally for me this is the walther PPS in .40 cal, but again once you get to 9mm luger it's all good.

All this talk about shot placement is all and good, but why place yourself at a disadvantage? Sure the perfect .380 shot can kill, but over what duration of time? What if the shot is less than perfect?

Remember that your goal in a self defense situation is to immediately end the threat. While no handgun is guaranteed to immediately end a fight (that's why man invented shotguns and rifles) the service caliber pistols stack the odds in your favor. If I'm shooting for my life I want as many things stacked in my favor as possible.

Another handy item is the Kimber Pepper Blaster (good range), or about any quality pepper spray will put a dog on the ground. No legal hassels from discharging your firearm, shooting the dog, etc., just a dog rolling around on the ground whining. It will recover, but won't want anything else to do with your yard.

If the pooch still won't quit, then your facing one who can't see or smell. It's been my experience that pepper spray puts bad dogs down fast.
