Sling from parachute cord

Gentlemen,

Just a note of info:

The reason for the shroudline sling on the 16 & CAR-15 was to provide an emergency sling to free up your hands for SHORT periods of time. One was taught in proper units in the VN-era and presumably still in Ranger school to carry the weapon in one's hands in the field. Many units (NOT, in the post-VOLAR military, mind you) removed the swivels altogether both to preclude noise AND the tendency of lazy folks to sling arms. The weight of the wpn on the narrow suspension line tended to make it more comfortable to carry the wpn properly rather than slung over the shoulder.

All of the fancy weavings and suggestions of wider slings are fine for ease of carry and for some form of aesthetics, but are at cross purposes with the basic idea of the 550-cord sling.

Spark, Take the free end or running end and put it throught the open loop as in fig. 4: http://www.earlham.edu/~peters/knotgrfx/gallery.htm

Seronac, You might try useing a piece of card board and stick pins to hold the unfinished loops down/in place. Takes about 100' to 150' of paracord for a size 40-42 belt. Could be handy in the feild to have a source for so much paracord at hand.
anodes.

Yeah, as long as you don't need your pants to stay up! ;)

Thanks, I'll try thr cardboard idea.
