Slide Jammed Bad on 1911

Monday i went out and bought my first 1911 after doing extensive research on the best gun to buy for the money. I bought a dan Wesson Cbob. But I have some bad news.. Not only do the night sights now glow, but I took it to the range yesterday and after only 8 rounds it jammed up really bad. To the point where the slide wouldn't move at all. Even the gunsmith at the range said something is terribly wrong. Before i fired it, i took it apart and wiped all of the factory grease out and re-greased it. Cycled the action 100 or so times then headed to the range. Has anyone else had this problem with a stainless 1911? I'm a little upset that i spent this much money on a quality 1911 to have it not only jam real bad, but have bad tritium in the trijicon sights as well. They don't even glow a little bit in the dark. The date code on the gun and the sights is 2014 so they are new. Back to Dan Wesson it goes...

Contact Dan Wesson. They are very good at making things right.

Call Dan Wesson (607-336-1174)

The fact that you disassembled it before shooting is a clue. My guess is that when you reassembled it you didn't get the slide stop pin through the hole in the barrel link.

Is it stuck open, or in battery (or close to being in battery)?

Thanks, it fired the first full magazine flawlessly. On the first round of the second magazine, it fired the round and the slide stuck open, but not all the way open, only about 3/4 of the way.

Without pics it is hard for us to tell you want happened. It sucks that it happened but Dan Wesson should be able to make it right.

after only 8 rounds it jammed up ...
`Don't think it would made it to the 2nd round if the link pin weren't inserted correctly.

What could have happened is the pin through the link attaching it to the barrel lug
might have sheared (thereby detaching/jamming the link)... but I've never seen/heard
of that happening.

`tis a puzzlement.

Hie thee to another gunsmith if a phone call to Dan W doesn't immediately result in an ah-ha moment.

Was the slide "jammed" due to the next round not feeding properly out of the magazine and becoming "wedged" between the feed ramp edge and still stuck in the lips of the mag?

You could have a magazine instead of a gun problem.

Have experienced this with a sub-par / damaged mag.

No the slide was on the way back when it jammed. It didn't come forward yet to load another round. The mag dropped freely. Dan Wesson wanted me to pay the shipping cost to send it back to them. Theres no way in hell thats going to happen on a brand new pistol. I brought it back to the dealer i bought it from and they are taking care of the shipping costs and sending it to dan wesson. I really hope there are no marks on the inside of the slide when i get it back otherwise i will be sending it back again to receive a new one. I should not have to pay the price for receiving a lemon.

I'm betting the pin wasn't through the link. It does happen, and often the pistol will fire that way ... for awhile.

Please post what the manufacturer finds. That's how we all learn.

It sounds like the pin is not through the link.

Odd about the sights. It's a reminder to check those things before accepting the gun.

I lighten the trigger pull on my Colt Gold cup series 70 (no firing pin block) once and it jammed the slide open royally after at less a mag of ammo. I think I kept moving the slide back and forth as much as I could and the slide finally broke free. Never figured what caused this jamming issue but my guess it was a trigger, dis-connector issue.

Pics wouldn't have done anything. It just looked like a 1911 with the slide open. I wasn't about to hit my brand new gun with a rubber mallet and chance making any marks on it. If Dan Wesson wants to hit it with a mallet to take it apart, then the liability is on their end. I'm sure there would have been marks if I was able to get the slide off

sometimes guns have problems, no matter how cheap or how expensive, it just happens. it sucks, we have all been there, let's wait and see how they make it right, or wrong before passing judgments. although, for a brand new piece commanding a high cost, they could have offered to send a shipping label, even Taurus does that. probably has something to do with who you get on the other end of the line though, some just probably don't wanna deal with it and wait and see if you ask.

Loose breech, I bet. The slide slip over the barrel's lock lugs. The slide will jam over the barrel solid on its way back to the front.

Just the break-in period.
Nothing to worry about,

Did I tell you my ATI ran 1K rounds
