Slave Reparations sought in Michigan

my forefathers owned slaves, lots of them. so did almost every farmer in the south with large parcels of land. lets assume first that some of the land/money that slave labor helped produce is still around (it's not we will get to that). if the wealth/plantation was still around then maybe a law suit to claim part of it would make some sense i.e. law suits against German companies for slave labor during WW2. but the fact is that during the freaking civil war and the vindictive reconstruction most if not all the wealth/land holdings slaves helped to build in the south was stolen by carpetbaggers and scalawags. second a large portion of that wealth was the slaves themselves. a field hand in the late 1800's sold for several thousand dollars. in adjusted funds that would equal to the price of a big Massey Furgason or John Deere tractor today. many land owners owned hundres of slaves. these were legal posessions, protected by law. during the civil war slave owners saw this property taken from them without compensation or due process of law. this was contary to US law. of course the entire civil war was illegal if you take the constitution literally. legally elected legislatures voted to leave the union. no law in the constitution forbids this act. Lincoln took it on himself to "preserve the Union" just like he took it on himself to free the slaves by declaration. when my family gets some compensation for our property, both land and slaves lost in the civil war i will be glad to entertain suits to distribute some of it to any slave descendant that can prove we owned them.

My how quickly they forget that blacks sold them out in the first place. Large tribes in Africa went and raided smaller villages. They adopted the infants as their own so that the tribe would grow in size. Then the captured able men and women and sold as slaves to the Portugese.

America, the land of the free. Just sue enough people and you can eventually be a millionaire.
 
On another note, how about paying every single living Indian a million bucks for murdering their ancestors? A common misconception was scalping was created by the Native Americans. WRONG! It was a way for settlers to prove they killed an Indian. They were paid for every Indian scalp they brought in.

How bout a million bucks for every US Japanese descendant of World War II. They captured and placed hundreds of thousands in POW camps out of ignorance. Those POW's lost everything they ever worked for and owned. The US in 1988 paid a pathetic $20,000 to each living descendant as an apologetic token.

When will this nonsense cease??????
 
We have similar problems with compensation claims here in Australia.The native aboriginals have many land claims clogging up the courts.Customarily these claims drag on for years and hamper land and mining development.
I don't understand how this situation has come about,but the incentive is obvious.What really gets to me is that the Feral government pays the legal fees out of tax money.That ensures that the claims will never go away.
I cannot for the life of me understand why the natives should get anything--If I went back to the land of my ancestors and asked for land,or compensation-they'd laugh at me.
 
oh yeah, while we are at it. i think i will sue the freaking British gov. for the 300 to 400 years of oppresive slavery of the Irish people and to recover my family's lands in central Ireland.

From now on, I no longer wish to be referred to by racist terms such as "That sunburn-prone tall chick". You will all use the proper non-racist term "Scandinavian-Americanperson". I also wish to boycott the state of Minnesota until they change the name of their football team to one that doesn't make a caricature of my ancestors. (You Irish-Americanpersons, have you noticed Notre Dame's mascot portrays you as a bunch of tipsy brawlers who can't keep the pipe in their mouth rightside-up!). I think I'll sue!

Re: reparitions...

It nauseates me that one thin dime of my cash could wind up going for something as loony as this, when nobody related to me had their name misspelled by the folks at Ellis Island before 1916. This would be my Great-Grandfather from Danzig (or Gdansk, depending on which side of his family tells the tale). Less than two years later he went off to France as a volunteer, speaking German, Polish, and barely enough English to understand his superiors. He never came back; the first installment on my family's payment for citizenship. So no slave owners or slaves in my past, and no exploitation of 'Native Americans' either (what's that phrase supposed to mean, anyway? I'm a native American, too, yaknow!) The "The evil invaders took our land!" claim is shaky at best, anyway. Take England for example: Should the descendants of the Normans pay reparitions to the AngloSaxons, who could then pass it along to the RomanoCeltic Britons, who could give it to the Celts, who could pass it on to the Picts, etc. ad nauseum. Are the Scots (Scotti) going to go back to Ireland when the English leave Scotland? To those who decry Western European colonialism during the age of enlightenment, I say "Study world history: if the thunderstick had been in the other hand, then the Euros would be complaining to their foreign masters about having to live on reservations." Human behavior is remarkably consistent regardless of melanin content, and we cannot visit the sins of the fathers upon the sons when we can't even tell whose son is whose...

So, what's the take on direct descendents of Civil War soldiers?

I've a GGGGrandfather who served, and was a POW for the remainder in Tyler, TX.

I don't suppose I could convince anyone that he paid a hellofa price. Why should I be expected to cough up cash for a guilt trip I don't have?

July, 1972 After training for several years for a specific job, I was excused for consideration because of a thing called affirmative action...

I get out of the military, take the Postal Exam, and was told the point spread system.
One of my contempories taking the test, it seems, already had 15 points, and we hadn't even turned a page...

Oh yeah, I think most caucasians have been paying reparations for quite awhile..
