Slamming closed an empty pistol; can it hurt anything?

I try not to have the slide "slam home" on an empty cylinder. I am sure all my autoloaders can take the stress -- I buy only very high quality, proven, reliable and durable firearms including Glocks, H&K, Sigs, Colts, Kimbers and Springfields -- but why risk damage to any of the parts or even premature crack initiation. Even during drills to speed reloading, the cylinder will be loaded.

I see no advantage, just potential -- however small -- harm.

Although Its all been laid out clearly enough here, it appears that there are those who just choose to defend their original positions rather than acquiesce.

Their are some things which all human instincts tell one not to do. Inhaling smoke into one's lungs, Popping the cluthch on one's automobile as has already been pointed out and dropping the slide on a fine automatic pistol. The mere clanking sound of metal against metal as they slam shut is enough for most mortals to know that it is inherentally a bad idea and no good can come of it.

As far as Glocks go, I have no idea since I never owned one of them. Maybe plastic doesn't "clank"??? [:)]

I dry fire my guns without snap caps, I'm always dropping the slide on an empty chamber after showing clear. No problems after thousands of rounds with any of them. Simply because I won't buy a firearm which needs baby care

Statements like this only prove what I posted earlier about fools and weapons. Any weapon of any make can and will eventually break a firing pin, an extractor, a sear, a firing pin plate or even the breach block. Slamming a slide closed no matter what the brand also loosens up the barrel seat which only decreases the accuracy of the weapon. Of course the fool would not know this or care about it if he did.

Any one can post anything about how they abuse their weapons but experienced shooters know that an abused weapon is the one most likely to fail if you ever need it in an emergency.

AS a matter of fact the really intelligent person buys a special gun for self defense which he only breaks in and then never fires again. He uses other weapons for recreation and practice even if he has to go out and buy a duplicate weapon of the one he will carry or put in his home for self defense. Of course the fool would never think of this or believe that anything would go wrong or wear out on his super weapon. You know the one that is perfect in every way and the one that will never wear out no matter how much he abuses it. Yeah sure , when pigs learn to fly.

There is no amount of convincing that will save the fool from himself. He must learn the hard way and someday possibly end up dead wrong.

I have seen fools actually use pistols as hammers when they pound nails, completely destroying the gun in the process.

I once actually saw a fool completely destroy a rare Belgium Browning High Power tangent sight model slotted for a shoulder stock. This happend about 20 years ago and back then he could have easily sold it for $700.00 and at today's prices it would be at least 3 times that. The fool happily walked away after selling the pistol for $50.00 loosing $650. on the deal which he could have made if he had not deliberatley destroyed it.

I guess I need say little more about this type of behavior. We will all get a good laugh from more of these ignorant statements about indestructable guns posted by many more of these fools. W.R.
