Skinny guy - CC options?

I've tried it at 3-, 4-, as well as 6 o'clock.

Have you tried appendix carry with a "zero-cant" IWB holster? I have had very good luck carrying a Colt Detective with a significantly-sized pachmayr grip this way and it doesnt print at all.

Not a Colt Detective, but this is a good example:

For me, it has been all about carefully choosing the right clothing. It doesn't matter about body build so much. Buy clothes a little bigger than you used to, pants with a generous waistband and shirts with long tails. Dark colors help too.

Carrying a compact single-stack like my Kahr CW9 helps, it just disappears IWB

When I had the build that Speedfreeq has, . . . a pencil would have protruded under my clothing.

Why? I liked "tighter" clothing, . . . "dressed to impress", . . . so to speak.

I'm white haired (what little is left :D ), . . . a tad paunchy, . . . no butt to speak of, . . . and I basically dress like a sloppy old dude.

I hide a full size 1911 and up to 3 mags, . . . no problems at all.

As said before in this thread, . . . it's all in HOW one dresses. Heck, . . . I can hide an AK folder under some of my street clothes.

May God bless,
Dwight

As you have found the long butt can be difficult to can be the difficult part to conceal. I have owned a 1911 with an Officer size grip and Commander slide for 30 years. Currently it is a Para P10 frame with a Colt Commander slide, but in .45. In 9mm you have the BHP, SIG P225, Glock 19 or 26, Kahr K9, amoung others, but these are my favorites. You also have the option of pocket or ankle carry and the Rohrbaugh, S&W J-frame (alloy for pocket, steel for ankle), Kahr PM9 or MK9 (plastic for pocket, steel for ankle), will all stay within your caliber restrictions.

Everyone has posted great info. I'm 6'7", and currently weigh 185 (down from 215) and have carried guns as large as 4" S&W N Frames IWB, which is possible given the following"

- A quality gun belt and holster (either leather or kydex; I prefer leather myself)

- Pants 1" or so baggier than needed

- Loose fitting shirts that come down low enough untucked that reaching for an item on a high shelf in a store won't uncover your piece. The shirt should be a bit starchy, not clingy. Patterns make all the difference, doesn't matter if the shirt is light or dark in color.

- Lastly, don't sweat it if a bit of a bulge shows. Most people are too absorbed in the smart phones or digging in their purses to ever notice something that they figure is caused by a cell phone to begin with.

FYI, here are some pics of me with my 4" Ruger Police Service Six, a gun nearly as wide as your 686. The holster is a leather FIST #20 with the optional sweat guard.

Even with just the white T, the gun is not noticeable:

I had intended to carry my 9mm PX4

A fat gun for a skinny guy ?

You want a skinny (single stack) with short grips, inside your belt ..... revolvers, even j-frames, are fat in the middle. Get a flat gun and a good belt made for CCW, and a holster that keeps the gun pulled in tight to your body......

I carry an EMP IWB (usually, though I have a very nice OWB holster made by a local guy http://www.midwestleatherworks.com/...... with a good belt, it will ride high and tight enough to hide under a T-shirt.

One thing I've noticed is that when carrying IWB at my side or side-rear is that by carrying butt-forward I don't get the grip printing when I bend at the waist.

I have a similar figure to yours, with maybe a little more in the love-handle dept. I just bought a Sig P225 and find it disappears pretty well with this method under a sweater or untucked button-down or even a T-shirt that isn't over-fitted.

im 6'3" and 165lbs and i find that a IWB holster at 8 or 9 o clock (im a lefty) with a loose shirt over it might print a little but not enough for someone to notice. most people are pretty oblivious

Two very concealable methods, one not yet mentioned:
I can easily hide a PM9 or Glock 26 appendix IWB in a FIST kydex clip on under nearly any loose fitting untucked shirt.

The Brahmi Hip Grip & Tyler T adapter on a J frame is super concealable; the Hip Grip has a small hook that goes over your belt, no holster required. The Tyler T just makes it fit my hand better. The small grip of a J frame disappears, IMO anyone could conceal this easily.

Im even smaller in build, 6'2" and 160lbs. I had trouble carrying larger guns but then I dropped the money on a good holster and belt.

Right now I typically wear a crossbreed supertuck and most ofthe time am carrying a fullsize 1911 or M&P. That holster made all the difference in the world. I carry at about 3:30 to 4 o clock, and have no issues.

It seems skinny guys have an easier time carrying larger guns without printing.

After carrying for a while, I've noted that skinny or relatively thin guys with comparatively broad shoulders have the easiest time with IWB/OWB carry because the shirt tends to hang out over and beyond the hips to begin with. This has been my personal experience.

Have you tried appendix carry with a "zero-cant" IWB holster?

I can carry my Colt Gov't .380 like that (or same position, opposite) and still sit down without jabbing the muzzle into my pelvic area (I use a simple Galco zero-cant IWB holster,) and it works pretty good. Since I switched to the Kahr CW9 I haven't tried it, just deciding to park it at 4 O'Clock.

The only real downside to that carry is when you are in a vehicle with a seatbelt on or something... you would have to do some digging to get to it, perhaps.

Hey there, fellow skinny guy :-). I'm 6' and 170lb, and faced the same problem. I don't wear super tight clothes, but I face a problem not with printing, but with finding clothes of adequate length. I could wear longer clothes, but they tend to look like tents on me.

Here's what has worked for me:
For a holster, I use crossbreed. Everything IWB has worked for me.

For a firearm, I carry a Sig P238 (any similar sized .380 or 9 would work) or a .38 spl j-frame. I always wear a t-shirt with a longer short over it, and I just have to be mindful that my shirt does not ride up. It is going to start snowing here later on this week, so coats will make it easier. BUT, when I lived in Texas and it was perpetual short weather, that system worked for me.

For someone your sized, go with a small, single stack .380 or 9, and you shouldn't have any problem. I started off with a Springfield XD .40 subcompact. It didn't last long. I feel as though your Beretta won't either (at least for CC).

Good luck, fellow skinny guy.
