"Skateboard" tape

I stopped at the local LOWE'S HOME CENTER a few days ago & picked up a roll of BLACK ANTI-SKID TAPE that they sell for application on stairs. I think it cost about $2.69 (or something like that). The width (I believe 2") is a perfect vertical fit on the front strap of my MAKAROV, so I cut off about 1" of tape and after removing the grips & cleaning with SIMPLE GREEN, applied the tape & then trimmed with an Exacto knife.

I have to admit I like the look. The tape seems to hold its "grit" well; while trimming I noticed grit coming loose in the razor cut, but nothing more after that area was wiped away.

One area of caution: the MAKAROV grip frame has cut-outs on each side of the magazine well (in other words, when you pull the grips off you can peer into the magazine well). I originally wrapped the tape into the mag well through the openings. When I tried to install a loaded mag, I could feel it dragging in the grit. Not wanting any of the grit in the action, I promptly peeled that area back & trimmed it away. While the tape sticks well, it seems easy enough to remove for replacement or permanent removal if desired.
