Single Stack Nines

Who owns or have used a Taurus 908? Don't like the 911, so I was just looking to have something different. Have Sigs, Glocks, and others. Don't believe that just because it isn't used by some elite pd it isn't good.

The best single stack on the market today is the H&K P7M8. Number two is the Kahr M9. Number three would be the Sig 225. And number four is the S&W model 3913. You will not go wrong with either of these choices.
You forgot the REAL best single stack: the SIG P-210...

Yep, you are right Walt. I was thinking along the lines of personal protection guns. While the sig could of course be used for that purpose I would classify it more in the target pistol category.

I agree with jetrecbn1 and D Crockett, the Smith & Wesson 3913TSW is one of the finest pistols around. Although, if the P239 is a little small for you, the 3913TSW will be even smaller. :(

I have carried a S&W 3913 for 6 years as an off duty concealed gun and I like it very much. I sent it to the S&W Performance Center for an action job and I put Novak night sights on it.

I also have a SIG P225 and it is a nice gun.

They are both excellent guns.

BTW, why are P5s so much cheaper these days. I remember when they were $1000 guns, and now I see them selling for far less.
Production of the P5 has been halted and the lines retooled for P99 production. The final stocks of P5 were sold when Interarms went out of business at bargain rates to Bachman Pawn and Gun and Champion Firearms. Bachman is selling NIB P5s for $489, so that has depressed the market considerably.

And, you're in luck - the market for single stack nines is depressed because everybody and his brother are buying double stack nines in anticipation of further bans.

So, now's the time - the P5 and the HK P7 are both excellent firearms, well designed and made of top-notch materials by companies with a reputation for quality.

I include the SIG in that estimation as well, but I don't have first-hand experience with that particular model. If it fits your hand and your budget, I say you should tell the dealer to box it up and prepare the papers.

Just as a follow-up to what CFI said and what I said earlier, prior to th eagreement, the S&W 3913 was the number one selling compact, single stack 9mm pistol -- all of those people were buying it for a reason!

You are right on the money with your picks. The best single-stack nines around are:

H&K P7M8/PSP
SIG Sauer P225 (HIGHLY underrated gun; I loved mine)
Walther P5/P5 Compact
SIG P239 (put a Hogue grip on it; makes all the difference for big handed guys).

If I had my pick, I'd buy the P7 first, then the P225, then P239 and finally P5, but they are all equally superb in quality and function.

I'm so glad to be hearing praises for the 225! I've had mine for over a year and have loved it. Not one single malfunction or jam.

The only bad things: (1) you hardly hear people discuss 225 (it's like the stepchild of the SIG family) and (2) the aftermarket items are harder to find (have not searched for a holster, but the grip selection is minimal). I've put a Hogue Handall over the factory grips and have been happy.

Looking to find some info about the Pachmayr 225 grips. They have a listing on the Web site, but not seen pictures or seen the actual grips. Are they rubber? Fatter than original? Anyone have any info? Thanks!
