Single stack 9 choice, PPS, CM9, G43

You may want to also look at Ruger's lc9s or Pro(no manual safety)models. They are very conceable, accurate, utterly reliable, and have great triggers. :D

I've been eyeballing a Pro model ever since i stumbled onto one at a gun shop. It will probably replace my Kahr CW9

To the OP, I sold my S&W 642 when I got my CW9. A few months later, I regretted it, and found the guy I sold it to putting it up for sale. Needless to say, it's back with Daddy now. Never underestimate the value of a J frame. They are just darn fine guns for CC.

Plus, if you ever sell a S&W revolver, and buy it back, it will be really mad at you, and you have to make amends. Mine wanted a new outfit, so I've got some combat grips from Altamont coming soon...

I recently purchased a PPS 9mm, and have fired just over 400 rounds (10 different brands) varying from 115 gr.-147gr. , and it has been Flawless. It's amazingly accurate. I'm an 'average' shot, and am generally around a 3in. group firing at 25yds... I believe it's a Very 'Underrated" Pistol...

I'd stick with the 642 j-frame, and invest in an inexpensive single stage reloading press if you actually shoot it that much to put that large of a dent in your ammo budget.

I'm not a huge fan of pocket carry, and out of the semi-autos that are on the table, the ones that area reliable enough have a fairly short trigger for that method of carry. The rest of the semis in the pocket sized category just are simply not reliable enough IMO, and I've owned a few.

A 239? In your pocket?
I have had one, never thought it was a pocket gun.
Have a 938 now. Still pocket my LCP most.

Or the 290. I know most people don't like the DAO, but I actually prefer that for a pocket gun.

Of the guns listed, I vote for the CM9 because of the trigger and size. I own a PM9, and love it, but the Sig 290 was the runner-up in my search.

The CM9 for me. I've had 2 of them, both excellent (after break-in and a bit of magazine tweaking). Nicely compact and quite light in weight, yet stupidly accurate. I have full confidence in mine, even at 25 yards. Great for pocket carry, as well, which I believe was a major part of the criteria.

The only issue I have with the CM9 is that I find the grip too small and thin. So, I simply add palm swells (about 1/4" thick) on each side of the grip, using plastic epoxy. Problem solved, though the grip does become thicker. No problem, even for pocket carry, for me though.

My 2nd gen LCP with a Hogue Handall grip and Fiocchi SXT bullets for pocket carry, wearing just about anything. I liked my first gen but the trigger on the newer ones is so much better.

I picked up a G43 and it really shot well at the range. It will fit most of my cargo type pockets but is not practical in dress pants, jeans or Khaki pants.

But it shot so well that it will find a place in my concealed operation.

I have a PM9 and a Glock 43, width is about the same.
They are the same height with flush magazine inserted, no difference.
The Glock 43 is about 1/2'' longer, may or may not matter depends on pocket and holster.

I also read the test of the single stack 9's and it only confirmed what I already knew. The Walther PPS is a standout pistol. Mine feeds anything, shoots much better than I can and with night sites, a very good all around pistol.
The draw backs, size and mag release. As much as I like it, I still don't care for the paddle style mag release, especially with a round in the chamber. Anytime my finger is inside the trigger housing with a loaded chamber it is a concern, at least to me. Now, I know you only are supposed to get enough finger to release the mag and the chances of an AD are slim, but it is still a concern to me. If Walther would go to a push button mag release, then it is a perfect carry piece.
Just mt thoughts.

Do you actually put your finger inside the trigger housing to depress the paddle? I depress it with my trigger finger, which touches along the outside of the bottom of the trigger guard. That's not actually inside the trigger guard, not in front of the trigger, and not anywhere near the trigger dingus that prevents the trigger from being depressed by sideways contact. It took an open mind and a little practice but now I love it. It's become my preferred magazine release and I wish more guns would wear it.
