Single-Shots?

All I only hunt with the singleshots and revolvers even though I have some leverguns.

NEF & H&R

223 Ultra varmint
22 hornet
225Win (was a 22hornet)
45-70 Handi
45-70 Buffalo Classic
45-120 Buffalo Classic (was a 45-70)

I use all the above on groundhog and the .458cal guns on whitetail.

I hunt whitetails with a T/C Encore, with both a .45-70 and a .50-caliber muzzleloader barrel. I can't say it's a handicap; I've never shot any deer, so I don't know if the one shot is enough or not! :o Actually, I could probably carry it empty and be just as effective!

What amazes me is how many people look at me sideways for hauling around a single-shot, while looking at muzzleloaders. It's not much different; if the muzzleloader is good, then the single-shot is good too, right?

BTW, HOGGHEAD, I just want to point out to you, somebody put the lock on the wrong side of your flinter there... ;)

Mines a little different. But since I only have 1 shot for each game I am hunting then I guess it counts. I have an over under rifle/shotgun combo in 12 guage over 7.62x39. I bought it with the intention to woods hunt deer and forest grouse at the same time. So far I havent carried it much in the field though. I cant seem to put down my bolt action when I am hunting.

When I had my Marlin 444 leaver action I put a Williams receiver sight on it because I couldn't hit anything with the reg. iron sights.

After I got it sighted in I never shot it unless I was hunting. One box of 20 rounds lasted me several years. I killed 7 deer with 7 shots over that period of time.

So, to me a single-shot is NOT a handicap.

Ruger number 1

Ruger number 1 in .204 for p dogs, fox and coyote

Ruger number 1 in .270 for deer, elk antelope

I like the number one for the following reasons:

A sample of only two, but both shoot sub moa, factory load, right out of the box with Leupold optics

I like the look of the number 1

Having only one shot, I shoot like I only have one shot- no follow up in the back of my mind

Not scientific, but I figure that say I can hit what I shoot at 90% of the time with the first shot, whether I work a pump, a bolt a lever or regain the target with an auto, I figure the percentage on a moving target will probably be cut in half on a second shot, likewise with the third... you see where I am going.

I am another hunter that only uses a single shot rifle. For me I use a NEF handi rifle Survivor 308. Changed the stocks to "normal" rifle stock and threw a Nikon scoop on it. Most of the time all you need is one shot anyway. So make it a good one. Below are some pictures of my rifle with some results.
