Single Action revolvers. Why?

I don't know why I like them. I have a lot of double actions that shoot as good or better, have better triggers, and faster lock time. I just know that I like them. Too many cowboy moview as a kid growing up? Maybe. I just order another single action, a Ruger SS Super Blackhawk with a 5.5" barrel. Why did I order it? I have no idea, I just want one.

I have both DA and SA revolvers. That said in the world of revolvers I just like the SA more and I can tell you why. I absolutely abhor the weight of a DA trigger pull. Even with my DA revolvers I cock the hammer to make it a SA trigger pull. My hunting revolver of choice is my Ruger Super Redhawk but that's just because I can get off a second shot quickly if necessary. My first shot from that gun though is ALWAYS a SA shot.

Asking why SA vs. DA is like asking why a bolt or lever action in the rifle world. While they are both revolvers the feel and handling capabilities can be completely different.

Many here have posted good answers. Bottom line for me is it is a slower, more relaxing style of shooting.

I have a wide selection of handguns in the house including SA, DA/SA, DAO in both revolvers and pistols. When it comes to shooting just for fun then a single action revolver is a top choice for me. In time I might get into handgun hunting again and the SA revolver is premo for that aspect as well. I might mention I recently added a second .357 Blackhawk to my stable for those cowboy matches I keep planning to attend.

Because sometimes, well thought out simple reliability is all you want or need to get the job done. ;)

Or perhaps it's nostalgia in action... dunno. :p

Fewer pieces to buy and include in your 'rebuild kit' when you are going in pretty deep. And fewer tools needed to install these spare gadgets. This takes priority because to me, they are NOT more comfortable to hold, shoot, or carry. But reliability and servicability need to take priority if you are not able to get to a gunsmith.

seems most ppl so far like hte grips. I had a blackhawk and i hated it. I could never shoot it with just one hand, it always felt like it was gonna fly right out of my hand. I shot a 1911 and i never looked back. I eventually traded that blackhawk for a 1911. they may look nice, but loading and unloading is a pain, hard to shoot with one hand. no more for me.

It’s the same reason many of us shoot Cap and Ball revolvers.
1. Because we can.
2. Because its fun
3. The biggest reason I feel is that the more types of firearms you become proficient with the better overall shooter you will become.

It’s like restricting yourself to only one type and one caliber of gun. There is nothing wrong with it and you need to be the most proficient with the gun you carry most often. But to restrict you to just one type or one design for me takes all the fun out of the hobby. For some, firearms are not a hobby but just a tool, for many of us it’s a way of life.
Good question by the way.

to prolong the fun out of a box of 50

you know how things that are fun are to be prolonged if possible

I don’t know about that rclark,,, I’ve seen Clint Eastwood change cylinders in Remington Cap and ball revolvers faster than you can load a Colt.;)
But your point is well taken.
