Single Action Revolver as Primary Defense Gun?

YEP. I HAVE CARRIED A SA SIXGUN FOR SELF DEFENSE. USUALLY

It's a 4" 45colt, sometimes a 4 5/8" 44special, either will do the job in fine style.
Carry the 45 on a 2 1/2" gunbelt in a Mexican style holster.
Carry the 44 in a EPS TOM3P on a chap leather money belt.
I do this in the winter where my winter Ranch coat covers it all up but all of it is instantly accessable.

Lots of great replies, thanks!

FWIW, the first thing I would probably grab if things went "bump in the night" would be my pump action scattergun, along with my Colt 1911A1. (Depending, of course, where I was at at the time.)

The Bisley is online and ready to go, should she be called upon -- right next to the AK-47 w/ 40 round mags.

I figure my castle is pretty well able to handle about any BG invasion, with the exception of King Kong or Godzilla.

Hummmm ... I may have to buy a .50 cal for just that possibility .. ha.ha

Lock and load,

Gunner

P.S. Sure wish someone would come up with a "hurricane gun" ... this weekly hurricane gig is getting old!

I asked a similar question in regard to black powder (muzzle-loading) guns and had some interesting replies. While I personally use my D.A. revolvers, I believe that the S.A. revolvers are suitable for self-defense, just maybe not the best choice. The biggest thing is just having the gun period. Then overcoming one
BG. Then two. Then three, etc. In most cases if you shoot one bad guy, the others will not hang around. If they do, then they're acting more like assassins than robbers and you're in trouble no matter what gun you have.

Can work very well.

One thing though. Can you run the gun with one hand? Recommend practicing this way until proficient.

Dad carried his 44 SBH for years as his protection, still does sometimes. His hands are big enough he doesn't have to shift his grip to pull the hammer back.
