Single Action Army Clones?

i wasnt slandering the guy i just wanted to know what the message he was bringing to the table.

Dpris-thanks for telling me about what he was getting at. is the 45 auto rim a better substitute for a revolver cartrige?

For standard velocity loads in the .45 Colt caliber, you can duplicate them in the shorter .45 Auto Rim case. For .45 "Magnum" loads, stay with the bigger cases. In a Colt-style gun you don't want to go for the hot stuff, it's too hard on the old design & can blow it up, depending on how hot you try to go.
Colt clones (and Rugers, too) generally won't take the thicker rim of the Auto Rim case without modifying the cylinder, and you probably don't want to get into that.
I personally like the Auto Rim in Smith & Wesson double-action .45 ACP revolvers. It's not much of a single-action cartridge.

Venturino showed his other face with an article about how great the .45 Auto Rim is. Problem was, of five nice looking guns he got together for the article, he gave up on two of them because they could not be made to hit anything.
He also said that he shoots .45 S&W in .45 Colt revolvers most of the time. Less airspace over nitro powders.

Colt Blackpowder Firearms brought in Italian parts for assembly and finishing at a shop in Brooklyn, NY not connected with the real Colt Pt FA Mfg Co. And they turned out to be some of the nicest cap and ball clones on the market. But they did not carry the project over to the SAA.

If you want to shoot light loads in .45 Colt or the other blackpowder revolver cartridges, wait a while until IMR Trail Boss powder gets into full distribution. It is almost as fast burning as Bullseye but of such low density that a double charge will either be safe or will overflow the case in a messy but obvious warning.

Sometimes those messy, but obvious, warnings can be fun. ;)

(Of course, there are other times when they can blow your hand off.)

I like Venturino. He has alone and without aid continued the legacy of the sixgun. I know of noone else who has written as much factual data regarding the 45 Long Colt, 45 S&W and the Winchester Specials. I appreciate his loading data. There are some articles attributed to Venturinos by-line that I have been disappointed in. There was a old time NYPD supply house in NYC that had a gunshop. I remember seeing the Uberti/Colt black powder revolvers coming into the shop. The Italian shop owners name has completely left me. I like the entire 45 line-up. The 455 Webley is one of my favourites. 45 Auto Rim, 45 ACP, 45 Long Colt, 45 S&W and even (looks quickly both ways) 45 GAP have their place. I have pretty well settled on 45 ACP and 45 Auto Rim myself. I might end up with Taurus Gauchos in 45 Long Colt for my CAS and hunting needs. I want 7.5" barrels. This is just my personal preference. I have had 4 and 3/4" utility revolvers in 357 Magnum. Good for farm use and CAS. I have had 5.5 and 6" 44s. Good for hunting, SD, HD and CAS. I would enjoy a pair of Hartford Armory Remingtons but, the electrician, plumber and other contractors won't accept an IOU. LOL

Them people just got no sense of humor, do they?
The .45 Schofield round is a very viable substitute for the .45 Colt, you just have to remember to keep the chambers clean like shooting .38s in a .357 Magnum.

SAA clones in .357/38spl...best value for CAS?

All this talk has me wondering, is there a .357/38spl SAA clone that is right around $300? Might pick up a couple if they were priced right.

No. A decent single action will run $400.00 used. They are higher NIB of course. The old EAA Bounty Hunter single action clones might come close to $300.00. Invest $100.00 for springs and new ejector rods and you really don't save much.
