Since I'm sick and tired of 9mm vs. 45 mumbo jumbo

I shoot lower powered cowboy action .45 colt loads through my Model 25 mountain gun. Its more fun to shoot than a 1911, but in my opinion, it kicks a bit more simply because it doesnt have a recoil spring soaking up the recoil.
Ironicaly, mine is Magna Ported to boot! Cushioned grips would probably make up the difference though.
When it comes to shooting you cant beat a wheelgun. No getting your fingertips bunged up reloading those damn spare mags.

So what's the amount of muzzle flash between a 1911 and the muzzle/cylinder gap flash from a .45 ACP revolver? Not having one I'm not qualified to comment on that question. However, I've fired my Model 19 at night before with full power .357 magnums and the flash was blinding to the point that I had no idea where my sights were at on the target for the next shot...and the results showed it. :o Of course things might have been a little better with tritium sights but I don't know of anybody that makes them or even how much good they'd do when you're seeing nothing but spots. Now my .45 autos on the other hand do have tritium sights on them and putting several rounds on target at night aren't a problem. I think that if you are going to limit a revolver to daylight use only, they are a decent choice but if you are going to use a handgun for defense, the muzzle flash (at least with a .357 magnum) is going to be a problem.

Lavan,

I own two of the mod 625's the 5 inch and a 3 inch both .45 ACP. They are without a question one of the more accurate stock revolvers available.
On double action the pull is smooth, on single it is a crisp release. The recoil is flattened due to the weight of the weapon which allows for a fast follow up shot. Due to the six rounds all ready in a full moon clip, speed loading is really fast for a revolver. On the down side the weight and bulk of the weapon should be considered before obtaining one for CCW.
I also have one of the 455 2.5 inch barrel Taurus Trackers in .45 ACP. I'm not happy with it at all, but I have heard good things about the 4 inch barrel model with adj sights, ported barrel.(the Taurus are now at a premium as not too many chumps.......I mean people have bought them.)
Plan on spending about $400.00+ on the S&W, you should be able to get the Taurus for $350.00 or less.
good luck

In my experience muzzle flash from .45 LC, .45 auto rim, .45 acp and .44 spl revolvers is a bit less than a .45 auto in a self loader.
Magnum revolvers have a lot of muzzle flash based on those heavy powder charges that the big bore low velocity rounds just dont have.
The only big bore non magnum I ever fired at night that had much muzzle flash was a healthy .44-40 load that was over 1000, fps.

Objectivity is a MYTH...

As to muzzle flash....buy better ammo..really!

Some loads are actually engineered to reduce muzzle flash

-Take some glucosamine too.

-Hang onto the colt.

-The grips style of the revo will probably play a large part in whether it affects your thumb.....dunno.

-9mm forever! Wait, I mean, they all fall to .45 hardball! :)
