And this has to do with Sigmas HOW? SW99 are not Sigmas...they were mainly designed by Walther.

On this thread, though...I was a pre-purchase Sigma fan for my first handgun. Had read a lot of literature, etc. I really liked how it looked/felt. I also was comparing it to the Steyr M40 and the Glocks. I liked the Sigma just as well, so I was going for it. A good Christmas bonus made me rethink it in favor of the pistol I always wanted...the HK USP .45. I've never been sorry about the additional money. Since my purchase, I've had occasion to extensively shoot the Steyr, the Sigma and the SW99...and sorry to say, both the M40 and the Sigma are just horrible. I would almost qualify them as "junk guns" to use a convenient term. Inaccurate, jam-prone...and they rattled like a cheap car when you moved them...very unnerving.

Just my $.02

Maybe in your dreams, Sigma's are better than
Glock's; but if you think this, then it's high time for a reality check!!! :)

Tecolote states: could there be anything more embarrising than a glock exploding at the range? why yes yes there is...

Deputy friend of mine in the county just north of the one i work in, had a Sigma for a duty pistol. Well this deputy made a vehicle stop one day and the driver was having a very bad day... decided to try and kill this deputy. he jumped out of his vehicle, shooting [think he had a 9mm berreta] and deputy had his trusty sigma.

Guess what happened???? Why that sigma [jamomatic] decided to jam on him after firing two shots at the bad guy.... most untidy. The bad guy emptied his gun into the patrol car, hitting my friend twice. He has since recovered from his wounds, and he now carries a [guess what] Glock for a duty weapon. I have spoken to several officers who have used this weapon and to a man they all had problems with this weapon. Carry either a Glock or 1911 model style weapon, don't trust your life to Sigma... there junk.

I forgot to place a smiley face after my post. I think the latest Sigmas have worked out the kinks. Doesn't matter anymore, I'd strongly advise against buying anything made by SW due to their traitorous action. Get a Glock and sidestep the issue. ;)

So many pistols, so little money.

My agency is currently transitioning to Glock 22's. We are currently getting rid of our Sigmas because they JAM and BREAK! I was issued a new enhanced Sigma, and it LOCKED UP after 63 rounds. What a piece of junk!!!
The Sigmas jam incessantly. Not stovepipes (easily cleared), but with the casing locked horizontally still held by the extractor. While I prefer a good steel gun (like my P14 converted to 45 Super!), at least we're going to something that works.

I don't CARE about pretty....I just want dangerous.

I know many folks don`t care for the trigger on the Sigma but I`m very suprised to hear all the bad reports of reliability. I had a Sigma 40V for a few years. I polished up the trigger linkag contact points and the trigger improved 100%. I put several thousand rounds throught it ranging from light lead reloads to Corbons with exactly ZERO malfunctions of any kind. A few shooting buddies (one an ex state trooper) have them as well and have nothing but praise for them. In contrast another buddy bought a Glock 17 and couldn`t stop bragging about how they`re 100,000% reliable and would never ever let anyone down. On it`s first range outting it jammed twice in it`s the first magazine. Sure it was probably a fluke but I`ll never let him live it down after he talked it up so much.

BTW he still prefers to trust his old S&W 659. My Sigma was never exactly a tack driver but it handled very well in rapid fire drills. I finally traded it in when I just had to get a new Ruger P-97. I like the Ruger better overall but I wish the grip felt as good as the Sigmas did. My point? I dunno, just that Sigmas aren`t as bad as they`re cracked up to be in my own experience and Glocks, although very very good aren`t perfect. Marcus

If any body has a sigma they want too throw away please email me and I will give it a good home.

You can read about my Glock perfection experience at the Glock chokes on brother in law thread on this forum.

Before last night I wanted to get rid of my SIGMA .40v and get a glock g26.

Now I'm glad I did not get a G26 jammmmomatic for $539.

I'm with Master Blaster on this one, though I like Glocks too. Anyone with a Sigma that they just can't stand any more, send it my way. I'll even pay the postage!!!

Oh, but it has to be Pre-SWTD. (S&W Traitor Day)

tecolote....yeah...

more embarrasing woul dbe the idiot who didn't know how to re-load properly whose round blew up...

that's a bunch of BS....you know it. Every gun has hd that experience. The only reason Glocks are more well known for it is because there are more Glocks out there and the are more well known!!!

Usually from inexperienced reloading...

also has happend to all calibers...

The most embarrasing thing at the range is misfeading/jamming...which has NEVER happened to any of my Glocks but has happend to all of theother pistol I've ever shot...

I could care less what you or any other blindly loyal Glock owner thinks. Search the archives here and at www.glocktalk.com and you'll find plenty of reports of Glock 40SW pistols Kb.

If you like Glock pistols good for you. Buy more and shoot them often.

Good or not, If its a Clinton & Wesson, don't buy it. The one good aspect of this whole thing is maybe Klinton will force the BATF and FBI to buy Sigmas! :))

A Sigma is a POS and anybody that buys one either doesn't know a hell of a lot about guns or is asking to be had. I have had them on the firing range as a LEO firearms instructor and they JAM. I will not let my Officers carry one, they are not on our list of approved handguns due to their problems. Pass on the Smegma.

I know a hell of a lot about firearms and I was not being had! I knew what I was buying at the time, I have never bought blind. The first Sigmas might have been a POS but mine work great.. I have the SW9VE and the SW40VE I would have even bought the 357sig verson had S&W not sold their soul to the devil.

Well said Kimberman, though I believe there were even some batches of the first Sigmas that were good. I have one of them.

Ever notice that nearly every detractor of the Sigma has some "huge" favorite that they think they are making appear better by detracting from the Sigma. I have found that these guys are usually "gun fade junkies," glorifying the "in" pistol at the time and bashing anything else. No pointing fingers here, just something I've observed relating to the Sigma in general. Unfortunately now we'll all be pointing fingers at S&W in general for the company's actions and weakness and Sigmas will have even fewer fans.

S&Ws (Sigma's and otherwise) were good guns, but now unless its a pre-SWTD no one will ever want one.  Gunfolks are missing out again on a great shooting experience just because of some weak mindedness and political maneuvering.

Hey, 7thfleet, what about all those magazines that Glock let get out to the law enforcement community that CAUSE jams? I got a few, and MY dept won't let us use them, not until Glock replaces 'em. We're using our personal ones for now. Or how about all those GLOCKS that got RECALLED by the factory because of major problems early on in their life?
It's all too easy to bash a first generation anything, be it a gun, car, or space ship. Just be careful that later generations aren't better than the smoke wagon that you're toting, lest ye find it in the hands of an all to capeable BG!!
