Wow I never thought that program would end but kudos to Sig on the big revenge on Beretta. Edit guess I'm late to the party

WOW. That is fantastic for SIG. I almost bought a P320 Compact today after range trip. I better go back while they still have some left.

Glockaholics all over are crying big alligator tears.

Glock has had it's share of big wins too but nothing this huge. I just hugged my Gen 2 Glock 19 though to make sure it knows it is not going anywhere.

If the 9mm Sig p320's they will be using are as reliable as a Glock 19 then good choice they have a better trigger and grip. Hopefully they wont have failure to feeds like the 40 S&W version I had. For me to buy one again it would have to be a good deal like sub $400 and in 9mm.

I'm a Glock guy and never really cared for Sig, but the Army knows better than I do what handgun they need for the future. From what I can gather, the Sig and it's ability to change frames with ease is a great choice, but my real hope is that the Army will figure out that 9mm is not the cartridge to make this new handgun shine, that would be the .357 Sig. While I don't shoot .357 Sig, I accept that it is superior to the 9mm as one of the best preforming handgun cartridges out there and it truly is a war fighting pistol cartridge.

I figured this would be the case... The Sig just made too much sense from not only the design criteria requirement standpoint, but from a logistical one as well.

I've heard worse things in all things news of striker-fired taking over from DA/SA hammer fired as a well recieved feature of pistols despite my appreciation of HK, and SIG's, hammer fired offerings, including the P250, which is essentially a DAO hammer fired P320, iirc.

Alls well that ends well to get us into the future as a nation, though, with our military's standard equipment.

Although if the history of the P90 and MP7 is any indication, HK may very well be pleading with the UN now to make high caliber HK pistols allowed for US Army use by request and wishes of individual soldiers.

I am so excited about this and surprised at the same time. I am a fan of both Glock and Sig but I was sure the Sig would be too expensive compared to the Glock. Wow.

I always thought the P320 made the most sense based on their criteria, but thought they'd end up going with Glock for whatever reason they chose.

Assuming the model that actually goes into service is the "MHS" edition with the thumb safety, I might have to look into one. Have always been intrigued by Sigs but not enough to pull me away from my CZ's.

This should be good long term for people who want a P320 because the economy of scale that this will bring to the P320 platform should trickle down to the civilian market.

I can guarantee that the Sig marketing department is already working on a fake UID sticker to slap on them for the US commercial market.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a UID sticker? I understand what you guys are saying about bumping price up and saying its the "military special", but what is UID?

I'm not very familiar with this model, I'm curious what mechanism makes the pistol drop safe? Surely a combat pistol needs to be drop safe, I do see an option for a thumb safety?

I see they claim it has a trigger safety, and that it won't fire unless the trigger is pulled, but I did not read that makes it drop safe?
