sig p229 extreme????

Hey guys, just want to touch bases with you guys and get your opinion (which is probably going to be where I am leaning towards).
I have had my S&W SW9VE for 4 years now, only problem has been ammo related with light primer strikes, and when it happens it is one in 200 rounds and has to be struck 2-3 times. It is my only pistol, and it is my CWP.

Now, tax time is here, and I have my eyes on a p229 extreme in 9mm. My wife has stated that I can get a new gun but I would have to sell one first. so if I get the p229 it would be my carry piece as well.

So the question is, if you were in my shoes, would you swap for the p229 and carry it?

also looking for people who have experience carrying the p229 and feedback from how it carries.

Thanks,
9miller

Get the 229 Extreme. It's excellent. The only thing I would say to add to it would be the Gray Guns P-SPIT trigger. It has a more ergonomic trigger face profile and built-in overtravel stop. It really sets the gun over the top. I love mine.

Smoothest trigger of all of my Sigs right out of the box, including my MK25 which has thousands of rounds through it.

I have the extreme in p226 and love it. It has all the all the options I would add onto it later down the road.

-Durable great feeling G10 grips that would costs you +$150 alone
-Short reset trigger
-Night sights
-Front cocking serrations (I would actually prefer to not have these but its not a deal breaker, I just never use them)

when (not if) I get a p229 I think I would go with another extreme as well.

This comment may be more for your wife, than you: have 2 firearms available. At any given moment, a gun may be out for some type of servicing which would leave you without one at that moment. Your present gun is exhibiting light strikes, which could be a quick/easy fix, but may take weeks to diagnose, get parts, then repair. Intermittent problems, such as yours, can be difficult.

The SIG P229 is a great gun, btw. Being new, perhaps there could be an unforeseen warranty issue, and you'd be without any firearm for an unknown time period. Just have at least two working, reliable handguns and you'll be more comfortable knowing you have a spare.

Having several firearms is fairly normal. I think it's more unusual to only have one. I would fix or get rid of the gun with the light strike problem. I'd suspect either the firing pin spring first, and then look at the firing pin itself to ensure the tip isn't chipped/broken/eroded.

In a few days, I'll be getting a Glock back after it being out for~4 months. No worries as I had several other handguns I carried while it was out of action, a couple being SIGs. I don't have a P229 Extreme but I was just admiring it on their website the other day. I like your taste in guns.

Well, I do have other guns, but one pistol for myself, the other ATM is a bersa thunder that I bought my wife, which is her "baby". But she should be getting her permit soon so carrying that isn't going to happen. While I also agree with 2 is 1 and 1 is none, I rather have a solid Cadillac than two pintos. :) more will absolutely be in the future, but some bills have to be paid off first, but I also want something now that will not let me down.

And her shoes can be counted on one hand :D she's not a Prada girl thank god.

Well, I just bit the bullet, going to be shipped to the FFL as soon as I have them send their info. I will give a report once I get to fire it. If anyone was wondering I don't mind passing on the deal. I ordered from Gunsmidwest.com for $709. Can't wait for it to get here!

Thanks for the reassurance uncle. Evidently sig sauer is having a promo on the extreme line for p226 and p229 in 9mm and 40s&w.

Uncle: how to the g10 grips carry? I've heard the grip most likely needs to be sanded down a little on the body side.

The p229 is my favorite Sig. It's a bit heavy due to the frame and such but solid. A right holster will make it carry with ease. I use to carry a Ruger P95 and I weigh 160lbs wet.

For me, they carry great. I love the piranha pattern. Good grip in hand but not bad against the skin. I bought the same design for my MK25 as well.

Thats a steal!
I paid $950 for my extreme p226.... very tempting.

I've been on the fence about buying an M11 or a P229. Wanted to shoot, or at least handle one of each first, but that price for a P229 may be too good to pass up. decisions!

Viper, the extreme price is a promo right now, $709 plush shipping and 3% fee if paying credit or debit. My total was only $746.xx

I thought I missed it honestly, I went to my LGS to ask how online transfers worked and went to order it and it was out of stock  Put an email notification on and a few hours later they had 16 more, jumped on it like a dog on a bone. :D

The sig P229 is my favorite pistol. I have tried to CCW my p229, but it is just too big for me. The sig P229 is advertised as a "compact" pistol. What does that mean? Compact compared to what contexts? I am a compact person. Is "carry" size the "compact" analogy for a small person. I digress and am not helpful.

I have had my S&W SW9VE for 4 years now, only problem has been ammo related with light primer strikes, and when it happens it is one in 200 rounds and has to be struck 2-3 times.

Have you tried cleaning out the firing pin striker channel?
