SIG P229 - 9mm or .357Sig?

I had conversion barrels for most of my 357SIG's. .40's for the SIG's and a 9mm for the 31.

For the most part, they are just a waste of money, as you usually settle on what you like, and the other stuff just sits idle on the shelf. Ran into the same thing with most anything else "convertible" too, not just in this case.

What you spent on extra barrels and ammo, would go a long way for practice ammo, for what you have. Something I think would be money better spent.

Anyone use a Bar-Sto 9mm conversion barrel in a .357Sig or .40S&W Sig? I wouldn't mind dropping $200 on a Bar-Sto 9mm conversion barrel as long as I wouldn't run into any reliability problems. I'd probably use the .357 Sig to carry with me in the truck for PD situations. Like I said I reload so I'm not overly worried about ammo availability.

I haven't met anyone that used a conversion barrel that felt confident enough in it to use it as their primary carry over the original barrel, but more folks here might be able to talk to that point. For saving money at the range I think it's a good idea. Though like AK103K my experience was I really never used the conversion barrel, it just sort of sat there if needed.

I never used a BarSto, so I cant comment there, but I did have a LWD 40-9 for my Glock 31, and it worked flawlessly from the first round. I actually had more rounds of 9mm through the gun than I did 357SIG.

All I ever did, was drop the barrel in, and used my 17 mags. Everything else in the gun was stock. I have 17's, so there was no need to rely on the 31 set up that way, but from my experience with it, I wouldnt have had an issue using it.

I think if you vet the gun with the replacement, you probably wont have any problems. If you did have any issues, I would probably pass, or at least think pretty hard on it.

Two out of every three times that I take my P229/.357 to the range, I take the SIG .40 S&W bbl. along and put at least 100 rds. thru it as well. ;)
I like both but favor the .357 SIG version.
1350 fps out of a 4" bbl. for the 125 gr. GDHP isn't bad.

I would get the 357. You already have 9mm, why not get something different. 357 is a great round to shoot and very unique. I personally really enjoy it. I think the ballistics would be effective enough for your uses. I prefer my 229 in 357 over 9mm. I have a natural 40 and shoot all 3 calibers

I have five 9mm's and would get another. It makes keeping track of ammo much easier. Reloading is also simplified as well. Working up a load can be tested in all five guns in one session. I had thought of adding different auto loading pistol calibers at one time, but it was a short thought, like most of my others:o

In a confined space I can only imagine the damage to your hearing.

I ditched my home defense 357Sig in favor of a 9mm. You know the saying you won't even hear the round in a HD shooting? Well unleash a 357sig indoors without ears and you won't hear anything for about a minute. Anything.

I would opt for the 9mm. I have shot mine thousands of times and it just runs and runs and runs. Trigger is pretty good. I put a Crimson Trace on that gun as well as my P220 and 5906. Works like a champ. Those guns have not been worked on at all.

I still prefer a 1911 style but I shoot the Sigs a lot.
