I loaded 5 rounds in the mag with the slide back. I racked the slide by hand and then fired. Nothing. I pulled the slide back and there were Two rounds basically stuck on each other.

I can't recall 100% that this is exactly what happened. Anyway, I could not clear this malfunction and had to ask the range officer to do it for me just to be safe.

He cleared the malfunction and I chambered a round. After the first shot the gun then didnt chamber the next round. He asked if I was new to shooting and could be limp wristing. I told him I was relatively new but never had this issue before.

For 2 rounds to stack on each other, most likely, the mag was not seated....there just isn't room for anything else really, but I didn't see it.

I'm embarrassed for the shooting community that lack of lube on a rental gun was blamed on you.

It could have been broken too. Rental guns get rode hard and put away dry. I wouldn't blame yourself, or the gun, unless adding lube didn't help.

To the magazine point....Mag replacement especially in 1911's is highly related to the guns not running and people looking for a "quick fix." Quick is often not a great fix, unless you are adding lube. So, I would say....determine why the ng mag is ng. What is the issue?

I've owned both. I found CZ's to be over rated. The Sig is a better gun and worth the price. Locally I can find much better deals on Sigs, prices are within $75-$100.

close choice

depends on $$ available and what model p226. The new legionis great . the elite line is very nice

BUT

a cz custom shop sp-01 is awesome--as accurate as a 1911 and shoots so sweetly. Mine was only $880. MY sigs are above 1 grand(elites and the legion). I do enjoy shooting them all. BUT I favor CZ for the value a cz custom shop gun adds to an already great gun.

of course if you have extra $$ for about 1400 a CZ custom sp01 CUSTOM piece is THE BEST period

goodluck--enjoy what you buy--you CANNOT go wrong:D

The gritty pull is pretty much standard for every factory stock CZ that hasn't been broken in. You'd be surprised the difference made by shooting it regularly (or dry firing) then swapping out the main spring. My SP01 (early run) was nearly bone stock for the first 2000 rnds and smoothed out nicely at around 1000 rnds (at which point I added a clipped 15# main spring).

My CZ 75B had a decent DA/SA trigger when it was new, and it got noticeably better after a couple thousand dry & live fire trigger pulls. The new production CZ SP-01 that I looked at had a pretty good trigger from the get go, and a really good set of sights. I'd be inclined to leave that one alone. If I don't like the trigger on a pistol I'm thinking of buying, I leave it at the gun store. I think it's a good idea to shoot a gun for a few thousand rounds before I start making modifications to it.

interesting, split 50/50 so far
That's because they're both excellent DA/SA guns. Really, almost every gun on the market these days is pretty good; particular makes and models have their advocates and detractors, but it's just splitting hairs.

Besides ergonomics, the difference between the two comes down to:

1. The Sig is alloy-framed, the CZ is steel. Lighter and more recoil vs heavy and less recoil.
2. The Sig is decocker only, with the control activated by the front of your thumb. The CZ can be decocker or safety - the safety is forward and controlled by the front of your thumb, decocker to the rear and controlled by the base of your thumb.
3. The stock Sig has a smoother trigger out of the box but more expensive; the CZ is rougher but cheaper. After upgrades, both cost about the same and feel about the same.
4. Stock Sigs have a lower capacity, but can be fitted with extension base plates. The stock CZ has higher capacity because the extended base plates are stock.
5. The CZ's slide-in-frame design helps mutes recoil a bit, but can be harder to rack because of less grip surface.

And, finally, if you believe the internet (and why wouldn't you?):

6. SOGS are garbidge sense the wall fell and not made in West Germany. CZ is KKRAP since communizm fell and they added the firing pon block.

There is a reason you will find more used 226's on the market than SP-01's. People tend to keep their CZ's and buy more of them!

That must be a joke, for the last 20 years Sig has sold more pistols in the states every month than CZ sells in a year. Not even close, quite laughable statement in the least. I'm a big CZ fan as well but I still live in the real world. ;)
