Sig P226, some questions for owners

This is a company that now includes (randomly, apparently) garbage Checkmate magazines with some of its new guns to save a couple of bucks.

Really? Garbage? Hardly. . . I have used Checkmate magazines as well as MecGar and others. Never had a problem with any of them. Matter of fact, you can buy Checkmate magazines for the M1A directly from Checkmate and get them a whole lot cheaper than Springfield. Checkmate provides OEM magazines for that rifle.

They are NOT junk.

It depends on which checkmates you are talking about. Sig had problems with them when they converted to them from Mecgar. M9/92FS has issues with them as well.

I like the for 1911s. I have run them in other guns with positive results.

Just for info, my 2012 SIG P226R with the long extractor from Exeter, NH-USA has been excellent for over 10K rounds so far.

Are those issues worked out now? I have had very good look with both.

Depends who you ask. The issues with the Sigs seem to have died down. It was done when there were a lot of changes to Sig line up and many pointed to the mags being the issues. I have not personally had issues with Sig checkmate mags. IIRC there were multiple issues. Premature locking of the slide and failure to feed etc... IMHO Sig beta tested the production change on the buying public but have since worked them out.

I have shot some in the 92FS. They ran without issue but I was not in the sandbox. Many of the issues that the were raised with the Checkmates came from the sandbox. IIRC they have weak springs and the follower sometimes bind. They also did not always lock back the slide. They claim to have fixed it with a dry lube.

I just got the p229 extreme in 9mm I ordered on friday. Feels GREAT, shot ball ammo flawlessly, however it would not feed hollow points, I tried 3 different brands too. It was just dropped off at fedex an hour ago to go to new Hampshire so they can look at it, believe I got a bad locking block. Oh well, I'm certain it'll be right, they paid for shipping both ways and had THE BEST customer service I have ever encountered. I had responses within 10 minutes every time via email. They seem great to work with.

I have a 1995 W German triple SN P228 that is, in my opinion, the most functionally and aesthetically perfect handgun ever made. I bought it well used and it's been flawless for me through thousands of rounds. The trigger is perfect in both DA and SA mode.

Not really sure if this is particularly relevant to this thread, just wanted to throw it out there. I love my P228.

I also have a Mosquito, I think it's a 2007 or 2008 but I don't remember for sure. I love it too, but I'm not going to call it perfect. In fact the muzzle end of the slide broke off on me one day on the range. Sig replaced it for $100 including shipping, since I bought it used it didn't have a warranty. It's shot several thousand rounds since then. Same manual of arms as my P228, and I get lots of practice clearing FTF an FTE that I would otherwise never get to see.

If you make an effort to learn DA shooting with it, the Sig 226 is hard to beat. The only one I've shot (meine) is German made. I prefer it to the USP 9mm and the 92, both good service pistols. I especially like the de-cocker in the manual of arms with the 226, although the HK USP isn't bad either.

Most of the whine you hear about Sig is directed toward the old CEO and/or by glockers in their attempt to get noobies to believe there's only one "real" pistol maker on the earth.
