Sig P225--Likes 147gr loads, are these ok?

Ok guys, I got tired of reading all these replies so I skipped to the end to post my own reply. I apologize if I missed yours or repeated anything. First of all, don't base your choice of handgun round on what ANY law enforcement or military organization chooses. These decisions are often based on budgets and the whims of politicians, not actual operators. Second, the 147 grain bullet was originally chosen and developed for the sole purpose of use in suppressed sub-machine guns such as the H&K MP5 SD. Often agencies/departments would load their pistols with the same round for standardization of ammo and convenience. THE 147 NEVER HAS, DOES NOT NOW, AND NEVER WILL OUTPERFORM A FAST 115. The 9mm is a halfway decent cartridge if loaded hot with a light bullet, but it is a poor performer loaded with a slow heavy 147. The .357 performs best with a 125. The .45 performs best with a 230. The 9mm performs best with a 115. You are entitled to your own opinion and to carry whatever you choose (unless you live in CA) but those of you who carry the 147 should seriously rethink your choice and do some research before your are faced with a situation where you have to defend yourself.

You should have read the entire string

Becuase if you had read the thread you would know that those of us who choose to carry the 147 grain have done a lot of serious research and have thought out our choice to carry the 147-grain because it is working, it is working well, and it is working consistently (unlike certain hot 115s which can be inconsistent. Judging from just reading your post, it is your research that is deficit in serveral areas.

Whether you like it or not, the 147-grain ammo does not overpenetrate. In a study of 150 officer-involved shooting, the 147-grain ammunition has been a consistent performer achiever .60 plus exapnsion and 12 to 14 inches penetration. It is an accurate, consitent, and reliable performer. If you chose not to carry it, so be it.

juliet charley (a.k.a. Mr. Sensitive, a.k.a. Mr. Personality, a.k.a. Mr. takes friendly advise as personal attack), I apologize for trying to help some of you increase your chances of surviving a gunfight. I apologize for providing my input on a subject with which I have personal first hand experience. I apologize for my experience which required me to carry a 9mm loaded with 147 gr. ammo 40 hours a week for about 4 years during which I was witness to its ineffectiveness on two occasions. I apologize for offending your personal convictions that allow you to believe you are well armed with any 9mm, much less the worst possible loading of a 147 grain bullet. And finally, I thank God that my superiors saw fit to properly equip me with a .45 ACP loaded with 230 grain Speer Gold Dot so that I could toss that 9mm handgun on the closet shelf and all my 147 grain ammo in the trash. And if you weren't such a prick, I might have even given the ammo to you. Oh yes, I almost forgot...isn't it nice to know that your choice of bullet weight is the same as the F.B.I.'s was when they carried 9mm and we all know that they are just famous for making rational decisions...

Because George H. has told us that sub-sonic ammo is for use in suppressed weapons and shouldn't be used for self-defense, I'm going to have to stop carrying my P220, and all of you carrying a 1911 or other .45acp will have to stop as well, because the .45acp is...[GASP!]...sub-sonic!

"And if you weren't such a prick, I might have even given the ammo to you"

My my, some one got up on the wrong side of the sleeping bag. I think I'll carry 147s simply because most people who carry them have more thoughtful and intelligent posts.....could help me in court since the prosecutor couldn't group me with all those testy, high strung 115ers.......
