SIG Mosquito : Good or bad?

Friend of mine regrets buying one. That gun does not like many 22 brands at all without having a malfunction. I remember during the dark ages that rimfire ammo was not available going to the gun range and trying to find one brand it would like, we found one only one of about 20 brands that I had. It was CCI but do not remember which kind within the CCI brand such as mini mags, varmint, high velocity, standard, etc.

Only gun I’ve ever purchased that didn’t function properly, over and over again. I was told to avoid em but I figured it was just personal opinion or operator error. I was wrong.

Only way I made work was by lightly dremel-polishing the feed ramp to open up a bit. Now it functions fairly well but left a very bad taste with me. Buy anything else in 22 and you’ll be happier.

My brother has one that he won. It is a potmetal junk gun. The cheap plastic sights were already broken when he opened up the brand new box. It runs fairly reliably with CCI Mini-Mags, but just about nothing else.

Your money would be better spent on a quality pistol like a Ruger Mark IV or Browning Buck Mark.

A Sig Mosquito was the only handgun I have ever bought and immediately returned. Traded for a Ruger MKII 22/45 and never looked back.

I was standing next to my friend when his blew up in his hand. The slide broke in half and sent parts flying. He was lucky he was unhurt.
His actually ran pretty good. It was an older model passed down from his dad. Round count estimated to be 1500 to 2000.
Sig told him that they would fix it for around $150- 200 as he was not original owner.

I have one that jams enough not to be fun.

I’m a big Sig fan but I had a Mosquito and didn’t care for it. I had trouble keeping sights on the slide and the quality just wasn’t the same as my P series Sigs. Accuracy was OK but nothing special.
I also had a Sig branded 1911 style .22 which was even worse than the Mosquito. Accuracy was horrible and it was totally unreliable.
I sold both pistols and decided to avoid Sig rimfires and stay with centerfire Sigs.
There are better rimfire pistols than Sigs available and I would suggest an M&P22, Buck Mark or Ruger MK series instead.

I haven't fired a Mosquito but with all the bad feedback here and elsewhere, it's hard not to just go with one of the more trusted competitors. If you like DA/SA, I really like the Ruger SR-22. I've shot two of them, including a pretty-colored one that belongs to a friend's girlfriend. They ate everything they were fed and felt really nice in hand.
