SIG Mosquito : Good or bad?

Friend of mine bought one. It was not a good experience for him.

The Mosquito, by the way, is NOT made by SIG, it is manufactured by a German company named GSG.

I tried hard to like the Mosquito. Couldn't. Can't like a gun that won't work.:(

There are better .22lr pistols available and at good prices. Rugers, Browning, Beretta, GSG to name a few, and they all function just fine.

I like the S&W M&P 22 12 rounder. Full size fit. I'm not looking for a CC gun.

The 12 round m&p 22 is made by Umarex/Walther for S&W. The newer M&P 22 compact is made in house by S&W. It is reported to be about 15% smaller than the full size m&p9.

I have never owned or fired one. But, I hear about them all the time. It's all negative. I never hear anything positive.

Hey, in all fairness, if anyone has anything positive to say about the mosquito please speak up. We'd sure like hear about it.

I'd never really heard anything good but I have always heard short strokes on "weaker .22lr rounds." This basically meant any blocks of .22 and that's the whole fun of shooting any .22, rifle or pistol.

I've got one and as long as you keep it cleaned, well oiled and use CCI Mini mags (Sig recommended) you are good to go. Other brands of ammo run fine also but others will give you some hiccups.

Reminds me of a video of this guy shooting a "dry fire" gun as he called it. Two mags had 5 jams. Then he oiled it. "Wet fire" test was next. No misses.

GSG makes a lot of 22lr guns for different labels ....

I believe they are all made of ZAMAK at least in part ..... no thanks.

I have one of the newer threaded barrel ones. It runs just fine. DA trigger is heavy, but SA is nice, and its accurate.

I have an older one. I ran it "wet" or lubricated the ammo and it ran fine. I then ironed the chamber (loosening it up slightly) and that helped reduce the need for lube. I went in expecting the worst but I worked around any issues I found. That reminds me that I need to take it out again soon!

I'll pass. Owned one for 6 years. Never could get it to run well enough to be fun, and it was never reliable. Have a Sig P220, hence my desire for the Mosquito. Glad it went down the road. I'll replace with a Browning Buckmark or Ruger. My misgivings with the Sig also apply to the Walther 22's.

My feeling exactly. My Ruger MKII works. The Mosquito I had worked some days and was a paperweight other days. I don't have time for handguns that don't work.

I have a Walter P-22. When I did the research before getting that I found the rep on the mosquito was “bad”, with the Walter a little bit better. As well as not being very accurate, the Walter is VERY picky about high velocity ammo only.
Browning Buckmarks and Rugers are both accurate and reliable. Both good investments...the Walter just felt good in my hand, and wasn’t too expensive.
