Sig Match Elite P220

But many SIG shooters have asked for a P220 with a longer slide, one that would compete head-to-head with other five inch barreled 45's.

The result?

A clunky looking crunchenticker that wants desperately to be a 1911.

There is even a SAO version, but I can't see the point of it. If you want a 1911, just get one. There are even 1911's with SIG on the side ....

I have one of the Sig Match P220s with the aluminum frame and it is a great shooter. I bought it for a range and home defence gun, it is a great addition and is not going anywhere any time soon. I would love to add a 10mm Sig to the herd.:) It would look good next to my S&W 1076 and 1006.

What makes you think everyone that wants a metal 10mm wants a 1911? I'm not much of a 1911 fan and would take the Sig way before a 1911 version.

I agree with you.

I was reading this thread and was so fascinated with the P220 Match Elite, I ordered one. I shot a number of Sigs over the years and they seemed to work well but never bought one. I am curious to see how this one shoots.

If this Match Elite shoots well, I too will likely get a 10mm when they become available. I have had a 10mm 1911 IAI Javelina that I bought new in the 90s for about $250(?) give or take. I can't tell you how many rounds I put through it but it is all steel and has a well supported chamber. That seems to be the issue with 10mms and 40s that go Kaboom, weak frames and/or poor chamber support. In any case, the old girl still shoots great and I plan on keeping her. YMMV

I did get a chance to watch a P226 SAO at the SIG academy two weekends ago. Instructor was running one. Seemed really nice. I was curious about the safety placement on a SIG but it seemed very natural.
