The SIG SAUER® P220® defines accuracy – and reliability – in a .45ACP. But many SIG shooters have asked for a P220 with a longer slide, one that would compete head-to-head with other five inch barreled 45's. The result? The first P220 Match prototype went to our testing range where it shot an eight-round group measuring 0.64” at 20 yards. Our engineers after extensive review concluded that this was a good starting point.
The P220 Match Elite adds the most sought after features to the P220 Match - beavertail stainless frame, front strap checkering, adjustable target sights, SIG's innovative Short Reset Trigger (a DA/SA trigger system with a 60% reduction in trigger reset) and black anodize aluminum grips. (NOTE: Grips shown have been discontinued. We have replaced with a similar grip without the white SIG SAUER logo. They have just a stamped logo).
The P220 Match Elite defines the new standard in .45ACP performance.
Seriously though, they are great guns. I haven't had this one in particular. I did have the P220 Elite Stainless and it was beautiful, but REALLY heavy. I currently have the P220 Elite Dark and it's sweet. It is a bit thin, because I'm partial to the P226. Makes me want to try out the P227 pretty badly - but for a 10+1 45acp, I love my HK 45.
My P220 Match Elite is very accurate , a bit on the heavy side but not overwhelmingly so , very easy to field strip , and shoots everything I feed it including +P ammo without a hiccup ! It is the easiest centerfire pistol for me to shoot the best with that I own.....however , I've become more of a 1911 fanboy lately ! It is one well built .45 semi-auto ( almost overly so ) that I have no fear of feeding it hotter +P ammo on occasion which I won't do with my 1911's chambered in .45acp ! My brother can punch the X ring out with this pistol on a good day......a feat I haven't accomplished yet but have come close ! I feel this pistol could easily handle the 10mm cartridge with full power loads !
Beautiful pistol. Was looking for one before I bought my X5. Bought the X5 because it was easier to find, go figure. Anyhow, the full steel frame and slide would allow it to go to 10mm. See Gray Guns about this. Its a sticky at Sigforum. Not sure if he is still buildng them, but it did require a full stainless p220 as the base gun.
If you guys are talking about the conversion to say 10mm, or one of the other high pressure rounds, it would be safest to be done with a steel frame. There is a reason that Gray Guns goes not use standard P220s in their conversions. It must be all stainless to contain the round pressure safely.
kcub, I am a dyed in the wool SIG guy, although you can save money on the GLOCK, I am still trying to figure out how to get the money to have the conversion done to my P220 Stainless. Not cheap, but to have a gun by Gray Guns is definetly worth it IMHO.

I have one of the last w. german P220's imported and my next will be the new P220-1, 10mm as soon as they become available. That's not a typo......it was just announced on SIGforum.
