You guys gave me great feedback before on a thread so thought I'd come back for further assistance

I can get a gently used Sig 229 9mm with about 300 rds, with the following upgrades:
1. Sig armor install the Short Reset Trigger,
2. upgraded the grips to Hogue Extreme G10 Checkered grips and
3. upgraded the stock guide rod with an all steel one.
4. 2 extra mags (4 total)

All this for $600

OR

Brand new CZ 75 SP-01 with Night Sights for $600

My only use will be Home Defense/Shooting range
Which would you buy??

$600 for an excellent condition P229 is a good deal.

The Hogue G10s and SRT are about $150 more. The mags are at least $25 a piece.

So, you're getting a P229 for what amounts to $400.

That is a ridiculously good deal.

Which fulfills your needs better?? The P229 is small and light enough for possible CCW but the SP01, while possible, not near as easy for most being much larger and much heavier.

If the SIG P229 was 9MM I would personally go for the P229 (9MM more in demand and commands a higher price). I have both a P229 .40 and SP01 and like them both a lot. The trigger reset will be much shorter on the P229 if that is a consideration.

If possible shoot both via range rental, etc. to see if you have a personal preference. If it is a nice P229 9MM most likely you could get at least what you paid for it if you decide to sell it to a private party.

Tucker, I like CZs also never had a Sig

Monkey, I thought the same thing as well...good value

Sigarms, is that a biased view? :D and yes it is a 9mm

Well in that case I'd say try something new and get the Sig. My only CZ is an SP01 9mm and I love it, the weight really soaks up recoil and I believe it has a few ounces on your standard 75B. That said I am a variety guy. If I were in your shoes I'd scoop up that Sig.

Sigarms is right, I carry my SP01 daily but it takes a little effort, a good holster, and a very good belt. I would imagine the Sig would be slightly easier to carry.

Tucker- well I've shot CZs at the ranges, I dont have a CZ
I was supposed to pick up a CZ P09 couple weeks ago buy my local doesn't have anymore.

It kinda gave me the opportunity to explore a few more possibilities....
Those possibilities led me to either

This Sig 229 or the CZ SP 01

I haven't held either, which I guess I should. I'm a bigger guy with bigger hands so I know the CZ won't be a problem.

From what I've heard you can just scratch out reliability concerns with both these because I know ppl who've shot thousands of rounds without a hiccup

I guess at this point I'm probably splitting hairs and subtle differences between the two
Although I get a brand new SP 01 vs. slight used 229.

I own 15 Sigs. 4 being 229's of some variation. All with SRT's. Naturally I'll say choose the Sig. It feels good, it's reliable, that short reset is a dream and the 2 extra mags also make it a good deal because mags aren't cheap either.

That being said, I've never held or fired a CZ of any kind but have heard great things.

I am more of a CZ fan than a Sig fan but both shoot well for me for the same reason. The slide s are full supported by rails. Sis is outsid e the frame, CZ is inside the frame

I prefer a full sized gun so I lean toward CZ BUT in your case the upgraded Sig is a decent deal. Tough choice. Play with both. shot them if you can prior to deciding.

or buy both :) you know you want to:D

For me, if I could only have one, it'd be the SP-01 for sure, no doubt about it. They fit my hand better, shoot smoother, less flip. They're just a dream.

But you'll probably not find a deal on a 229 like that again any time soon. They're great guns, just not my preference.

If you see yourself buying both at some point, get the Sig now, because new SP-01s can be had at that price regularly. But if you see yourself only ever getting one, I know I'd get the SP-01.

I have both the SP-01 and a few Sigs. If the Sig is an Elite with stainless steel frame and slide, I would opt for that. Otherwise go for the all steel CZ.

If the Sig has night sights and a rail already then I would swing towards that, since it's a good deal.

However, if not, then I think the SP-01 is the better HD/range gun as it already comes with night sights and a rail for lights. It also has negligible muzzle flip, even compared to other full size pistols, and shot to shot accuracy is scary! I love my SP-01 for HD duty and occasional carry.:)

B.O.F.H- that is a very good point. My thumbs forward high grip rides the slide lock on the Sig, keeping it from locking back once in a while. It's definitely something to think about.

I have both, 229 extreme and 75sp01. I do not carry, so they are range guns. I prefer the CZ.
Just my opinion .

Both are nice guns, and you can't go wrong with either.

All things being equal, if you don't have a clear preference for the controls / ergonomics of one, the Sig is the strongest deal. It's hard to find a price like that.

CZ makes great guns. The SP01 is massive, and heavy. I pity the man who carries it.

If all you intend to do is punch holes in paper for funsies, the SP01 is a great shooter. The P229 is every bit its equal, and it carries far more easily.

If you get a chance to find a range that has both of these as rentals, that may just be your answer.

Meh, a good holster and belt makes it not so bad. Picking a t-shirt is a little more difficult though. I always print a little, not enough for 97% of the population to notice though.

OP, if both guns feel good in your hand you really can't go wrong with either. I will say that with the CZ you will almost certainly have less perceived recoil and muzzle rise due to the slide in frame design, low slide mass, and heavy frame. I have heard the Sigs have better DA triggers. Depending on which SP01 you get you may have the option of carrying cocked and locked with the safety on or hammer down with the safety off.

I've never owned a Sig. I would love to have a P226 but they're a little out of my price range. Even if I acquire one I have a hard time seeing any pistol dethrone my SP01 as my favorite.

I like and own SIGs and CZs. Both great choices, but I'd go for that P-229 initially and I'd get the SP-01 eventually.
