sierra or hornadys?

Have you thought about cast bullets? Velocities in the Krag are such that it made an excellent cast bullet rifle with 200, 220 cast bullets, back in the day. There is no doubt that a 220 grain cast bullet will expand at Krag velocities.

If you have to shoot jacketed, I don't think the Sierra is a good choice based on what I read on their web page:

The 220 grain #2180 is the real heavyweight and is suitable for the largest North American game and many African species.

In handguns, these bullets should be considered nonexpanding in game at normal handgun velocities

I think the "new normal" is that big 30 caliber bullets will be fired out of magnums.

next year i plan on using cast bullets from beartooth bullets. i slugged the barrel and it came out at .309".
its .310" seems to be the one for 173gr gas checked flat nose.

Awesome !! You got a Krag !! I've always wanted one , I have had excellent result's with all the Hornady round nose bullets I've tried.
I haven't taken any game with them yet, but very accurate in my guns. :D
