Sidearm for a lady

1911's CAN be had in stainless AND in 9mm, even in commander sized autos. Maybe you should be looking for a used pistol. Try GUN LIST for such a find.

The colt 9mm holds a 9 shot single stack mag. as I recall.

I'm looking to get my gf into shooting, and I think she'll end up with a glock 19. It's a 9mm, and the recoil is not bad at all. She's got small hands and so the handle might be a tad big, but other than that, the gun is a performer. She likes the glocks because there are no levers etc... to fuss with, point and shoot.

Shoot safe,
Albert

I reccommend a Keltek P32. Cheap, small, .32 cal, light, and doesn't recoil too badly.
Easy to hide 'bout one's body and never notice it's there 'till ya need it :)
Easy to use too :)

I had a similar experience taching my sister how to shoot. She hated my dads 40. Beretta because of the caliber. However, after letting her use a 22. beretta that she also liked I still couldn't get her to shoot anything bigger. After bying my Sig 226 in 9mm it took no time at all for her to become an excellent shot even though she dose'nt like the feel of the 226. Now she even shoots a 44. mag now and then. My point is that using a smaller caliber to get get used to shooting can help as long as you don't get too small. :)

I would avoid P32 as a gun for a newbie -- it is hard to shoot well w/o constant practice.
Makarovs and other bloaback guns are hard to rack, some women dislike them for that. How about a Sig 226 or USPc9?

I know women in a certain Middle Eastern country have a good time with Uzi submachine guns...maybe get her one of those?
