Very interesting thread. As a science teacher, I've spent the last two weeks in a seminar with some leading USDA scientists. I was very surprised by the rapid growth of genetic knowledge (and techniques) in the last 15 years.
Today I was in the lab of a scientist who was able to insert a bioluminescing gene (from another organism) into plant cells. That's true genetic engineering of complex cells.
We are on the road to an amazing scientific revolution. And it is happening very fast. We will prob see genetic engineering used on human beings in a very short time.
