While there are many conflicting opinions (and sadly facts, lol) to this debate, one thing is for sure, financially speaking, I would keep the glock.
Its pure and simple $$$...you are losing money going straight up trade your glock 26 for a S&W model 38. While the 38 is a S&W and a good carry option, there are better. The S&W 38s with internal locks, any IL S&Ws don't bring as much on the used market. I also personally don't see a need for the bobbed hammer, I would opt for hammerless if the hammer is a concern. If it ever comes to time for your gun to be used in a SD scenario, you are way more likely to shoot DA, so you should do most of your practice DA.
You would be better off to sell your glock 26 (about $450 used) and then look for a S&W lightly used snub ($250 to $350) and keep that extra $100 or more. I would rather have a 642 than a 38 although I may take a 38 over a model 37 (with exposed hammer).
Also, Glock 26s are somewhat of a B*TCH to find on the used market. I've wanted one for sometime, and I never see them very much. Once in a while some fool wants $500 for a used one, but generally they are not around. It is a much sought after glock model. Many people like the idea of a glock 27 off the bat, which IMO is too small a package for the 40 cal, so in turn, you see a lot of model 27s on the market. Not so for the model 26. I have a model 19 now, and concealing it, esp in summer is not the easiest thing to do.
