Your grips are poorly (and cheaply) made epoxy "specials" with a thumb rest to gain points for BATF's incredibly asinine import qualification regs per the GCA of '68. Throw them away and look on eBay for lots of original grips for a few bucks; They're pretty common.
E. German Maks are sometimes going for north of $500.00, so, even at $300.00, it's a deal. The grips are bupkis and easily replaced,
E. Germans are, indeed the "Mercedes:" of Makarovs, so I would advise you to ignore the other naysayers here. Other than the BATF mandated "billboard" on the slide, I can see nothing wrong with that pistol you have pictured. It's certainly not going to affect the way it shoots.
I own about 25 Maks (one of my all time favorites) from all four nations that produced them, including a Baikal CO2 pistol and a couple Bulgarian .22 conversion units. Maks are probably one of the most reliable autos that have come out of the last 50 years.
Re: Pearce grips.
Nice, but:
I found the Pearce grips for the 8 round standard Maks too fat for my small hands. Ironically, the Pearce grips for the double stack Maks actually were slightly smaller than what came on the gun and are very comfortable for me. (Not to mention much better looking.)
I have a bunch of original E. German grips put away; If you can't find one on eBay or Gunbroker, PM me.
