Shotguns are just a flat-out hootenanny!

Dang, I had almost forgotten how much sheer fun shotguns are. They're probably the funnest of all types of guns, with .22s a close 2nd place. The power they deal out is immense. I was just shredding the wooden target backstop on the plinking range (hey they allow shotguns there, so they can't be mad at me. :) ). 5 shots of dove loads at 7 yards and large chunks were falling off of it. Reminds you of what fantastic formidible weapons they are at short range. I know, preachin' to the choir, but I'm sure more than a few would agree with me that they are the funnest type of gun. Have a nice day. :)

Intentionally destroying range equipment is childish and highly frowned upon at my range. Can't you find something better to shoot at, like clay pidgeons!! It's folks like you that raise the costs for the rest of us!!
I enjoy shotgun sports, but not to randomly destroy property. That's irresponsible!!

Destroy...destroy....destroy!!! Yes they are formidible weapons. I hope you offered to pay for those though. :)

The use of Hootenanny dates you to an age where you should know better or to a level of intelligence that doesn't!!!

Well, then your just as irresponsible as he is!! Blowing up range boards at 7 yds with a shotgun is immature behavior!!!

If it wasn't allowed, I wouldn't do it. It is allowed in the plinking range. It says "ANY Gun Except .50 Caliber", and "ANY Target Except Glass". Besides, the thing had the center hole pretty well shot out already, and plenty of plywood stacked nearby for replacement. In fact, chunks wouldn't have fallen off it the center wouldn't have been gone already. Just following the rules. And the plywood is not "range equipment" - that's an erroneous statement. Sheesh almighty. :-/

Trimming dead tree stumps at my local range is a blast too. It's not my fault they're down range just egging me on. Shotguns are indeed fun. My 30-30 does impressive tree trimming too.

Immature?

Don't you guys ever have FUN?!? Seriously, though...anything downrange is fair game. Or is it different for other places? I mean no disrespect here, but it's not like people use Shotguns for precision shooting. You blow stuff up with shotguns. Coconuts are especially fun. (It's a hawaiian thing). Come to think of it, coconuts are fun to shoot with just about anything....ok back to the point. Shotguns are chock full with grins and giggles, and they just so happen to rip big holes in backstops sometimes...backstops and coconuts. And old watermelons. And water filled milk cartons. Well...you get the idea.

I shot my first 12 guage slug the other day, and call me irresponsible, but it made me want to go out and buy an old Civic to "customize." And yea, watermelons are great fun. So are pumpkins. Pumpkin patches are better, but get permission first. Haven't tried coconuts though...they don't grow much around these parts.

My favorite produce to shoot is potatoes. Oranges are fun too, but potatoes are cheaper. The thing that makes them so fun is that they EXPLODE!:D I've shot them at close and far range with a .22, a couple of 9s, a .40, a .270, and a 12GA police shotgun. They're all equally fun. They completely blow up when hit square with anything, including a .22.

I just got my first semi auto..

and I'm REALLY having fun now.!!! That baby deals out some serious firepower.!!
AND I got for a c-note.!! :)

I bought a 20 gauge single shot and cut it down to just a hair over the legal min. it's a blast to trim down weeds and saplings on my friends property. I also like to take old TV's out there and turn them into nothing. to reiterate, I do this on private property where I have permission from the owner, so go easy on me. lol

FF has 7000 posts. You guys have...not many. I'm willing to bet he's been shooting for a while, no?

Respect your elders.

What does that have to do with anything?

At my range shredding the backstop is a no-no. It is not my property, it is the property of the range. I don't disrespect them by destroying their stuff just as they wouldn't shoot my car.

There is a difference between having fun and being irresponsible. Couldn't you find a target that you own? Soda bottles, clay pidgeons, etc.?

I don't disrespect them by destroying their stuff just as they wouldn't shoot my car.
Target wood vs. a car? The wood gets changed out regularly anyways. And he said at his range it is allowed so c mon people settle down  . Take 2 bottles of turbo lax and call me in the morning :D wwhhhhhhheeeeeeeeewwwwww!!

So the plywood costs nothing?? Anything down range is fair game?? The range doesn't care if you blow up their target frames and backstops at close range with a shotgun??
Not a place I would care to frequent!! What other kind of nonsense is permitted there??
If you want to blow up your property on your property, have at it! There are plenty of ways to have fun with a shotgun other than carelessly destroying property that doesn't belong to you!!

It aint so bad Bob!

Sorry if the subject upsets you, but he was just having fun. Wasn't hurting anyone either. As far as destroying other peoples property, well, of course you're right buddy, but backstops are there to be shot at. It wasn't a new backstop either, it had a big gaping hole in the middle. Even if it were ok I wouldn't shoot up a brand new backstop with a shotgun, but a backstop that looked like it would be retired soon? OH YEAH. Fair game. I'da tried to shoot out the corners and make the board disappear! LOL!

I for one understand where you're coming from Bob, and you aren't wrong. But lighten up a little friend. No harm was done...well some harm was done, 'ole freedom killed the backstop, but other than that nothing bad happened.

Not to get off the subject but coconuts are GREAT targets! They are like "skull targets". (husked of course) Shooting them with .223 is especially impressive, they blow up! Nothing is left after a good hit.LOL!

Woah, just re-read the original post. I misunderstood the wood to be a target frame. At my range we have target frames and then a berm behind it for a backstop. Shooting at target frames is strictly forbidden, and if you do you can have your membership revoked.

If it's a backstop then what the hell. They are meant to stop bullets so it's all good.
