Shot a 1/4 inch group this weekend

I just measured it and it is .284" Not as good as some of you fella's, but it's a keeper for me.

I'll add another Remington 700 PSS in .308 to the list of those that performs admirably, I have a 100yard 3 shot group, from the prone bipod, of 0.242" using 168gr handloads. Remington did their homework on this one. Now, for real fun, I built a tactical 6.5-06, and entered it in the No Bull**** Sniper Match near Sacramento in May of 1999. The course of fire was 500 meters, several steel plates ranging from a lifesize chicken down to a 3" square, plus one defiant little golf ball. Long story short, I now have the golf ball, and it's mounted in a ferocious lifelike pose, tiny entrance hole, blown open on the exit. The November 1999 issue of Tactical Shooter did a story on the match, and I was dubbed Mr. Mauser. I've since had the floorplate of the 6.5-06 engraved with "Titleist". I took her out of her hardcase a couple weeks ago since I left California for my new assignment in Florida, to check her zero. She rewarded me with a 0.216" group at 100 yards, again, bipod from the prone. Here's the gun:

Sadly, as a tactical rifle it's not in the same category as some of the full benchrest rigs, and it gets pooh-poohed for not being of that pedigree, but after I built her and gave her room to run, I'll keep her, just the same.

Kilgor,
outstanding on the shooting. Next time you guys are out shooting, if you can, bring a watermelon. I shot a melon last year that had been in the fridge a little too long and it was the funniest thing I have ever seen done with a gun. That thing came apart like I had stuffed it with C4. 50 yards with a 7MM Mag. Nothing to do with groups but I figured y'all might get a kick out of it.

Kilgor: I don't take too much credit for the groups shot through my Rem. (Other than my reloading skills) Some rifles are just shooters. I'm shooting one-hole groups with my new Rem. VLS in .243, with certain bullets/loads. With other premium bullets (Starke and Bergers), it's shooting around an inch. If you're shooting .284" without your having adjusted your trigger, that's really good shooting. I have aftermarket triggers in both Rems and my Bushy.

I have adjusted the factory trigger some. It is completely stock and I am very pleased with it. I wish Remington could put out a 700 with the BOSS on it, as I am very impressed with the system. I am happy with the Browning Varminter though.

I set the factory trigger on my 700PSS for a 3lb break and opened up the freefloat all the way back to the recoil lug, but it is all off the shelf Remington parts.

Kilgor: The BOSS would just be superfluous plumbing on the end of a heavy Rem. barrel. If you reload, you don't need to be bothered by a barrel harmonic-tuning device like the BOSS. FWIW, you probably won't find too many of those guys over on benchrest.com or varminthunters.com using the Browning/BOSS system. The Browning trigger is pretty difficult to adjust below 3# or so, without modifications.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on that one Walter.

Hey REX!

I like it over here for "serious" talk.

Yep, It was the one we have talked about on many occasions. No too bad for a hose.

I'm still planning on upgrading, maybe for Christmas.
