Etowah County, Alabama.

10 mins. thats how long it took to fill out the 1 page of paper work and get a background check and have my permit typed up.

so he cocked both his pistols, spit in the dirt, and walked out into the street.

GA: Took me only a few minutes. The most time was spent going to the sheriff's office to be fingerprinted. I suppose it could be done in 20 minutes or so.

Here in North Texas my original CHL in 1996
took about 6 months due to screwed up fingerprints which had to be repeated.
My renewal last October took 22 days from mailing in the renewal packet until I got the new license.
From all the posts so far it varies all over the lot from a few minutes to months and months. Obviously depends on where you live and what the attitudes of the "power guys" are relative to the license/permit system.
Fortunately, Texas seems to be doing ok. We do have one of the more requirement heavy systems. Hope you get yours soon.

MA-- (About 10 years ago) Got mine in about an hour. Small town, knew the chief personally. :)

PA-- (2 months ago) Submitted application, got it in the mail 3 weeks later.
My friend got his in 20 minutes (depends on the county).

Denver, Colorado is on the "Hell Freezes Over" policy. Here you need a separate permit based on your county, and in Denver they accordingly haven't given one out to a civilian in 5 years. Big Brother still happily accepts your 135 dollar application fee.

Fulton County Georgia told me 6 months on Feb 4... only 5 months left! LOL.. Fulton County houses the screwed-up city of Atlanta.

Who's going to feel MY pain? Erie County, NY State. My approval in 5 months was considered FAST by the guy I bought my pistol from at the local gun shop. I guess eight months to one year is considered normal. Of course now that I've shelled out the cash for a nice new para-ordnance P14-45 I still can't pick it up because they haven't sent me my permit yet. A two week wait has turned into three and a half! Damn Western NY! (Sorry guys I needed to vent).

The first step is registration, the second step is confiscation, the final step is subjugation.

Rome, I like the CT. license because "YOU" are licensed to carry. It doesn't matter who owns the gun. Here in NY all your handguns are listed on the license. That's all you better get caught carrying.
