Short barreled hunting rifle build- opinions wanted

Youth Marlin 336 in 30-30

You can find a youth Marlin in 30-30 cheap. It will do everything except shoot long range which no short barrel excels at. Wally world or a good used one. Light weight, handy, deadly on deer, and none of that muzzle flash that will blind you temporarily in low light. It is hard to follow up when you can't see and is difficult to see which way the deer went if he does not go down. Maybe consider a flash supressor if you are stuck on the larger cartridge.

A big reason I chose a bolt .308 over a lever .30-30 is the availability of brass and not having to load round or flat nose bullets, and also not having to crimp the rounds.

I have a Marlin 336 in .35 rem which I have hunted with some in years past, but it doesn't get shot much because brass is so hard to come by. Also I'm the third generation to own it and I'm trying to preserve it so that my children can hunt with it someday. It was made in 1959, and has the straight stock.
