Shop Asking Too Much For Cerakoating?

Cerakote might be the toughest paint, but NO paint is as durable as chrome or nitriding. Even nickel plate is more durable than most (probably any!) paint.
See? People actually think of paint as a superior finish!

In my opinion anything over $25.00 is to much for painting a gun.
Personally I would take a matte blue finish over paint any day.
If you want a more durable finish look into the ones Bill mentioned.

I would love to be able to get real tennifer done, but not going to happen in the us.

From what I've gleaned- and this is above my pay grade- it's mostly semantics compared to Melonite. Both are trade names, not processes. Both are salt nitriding acid baths.

Tenifer isn't allowed by the EPA because of the cyanide salts, and Melonite gives the same end result, cyanide-free. Anyway, that's my take on it.

Tennifer isn't actually a finish, it's a surface treatment for the metal. The finish is applied over the Tennifer treatment.

Yes, i am aware that tennifer is a surface treatment. However, this discussion really hits on durability, and tennifer, while not doing much for apearance, is very durable. It resists wearing, and resists rust rather well.
A that point, you can rattle can it if you want, its just cosmetic.

As i understand it, melonite without the cyanide salts isnt quite as hard as the tennifer with cyanide salts.
However, at that point, it may be semantics.
