Shooting My 336 Offhand at 50 Yards

Sure Shot - just to clarify, that target is my offhand group with factory Hornady Whitetail rounds, and the groups are tighter off the bench. Even off the bench my reloads aren't grouping that tight. I figured that I should just be able to trim and seat the bullets normally as well, however that isn't working. Something is causing my reloads to shoot poorly, and I don't know what it is. I'm going to try to work on the seating depth to correct the problem.

Something is causing my reloads to shoot poorly,

Well Sir. According to what I see in your prior write & targets. I don't think your rifle likes Speer bullets period. I've encountered such behavior in a rifle or two in the past myself. {So easy to over-look the obvious occasionally isn't it.} Especially so when different powders are used and no change or worse groupings are seen. Yup I'd buy a box of Hornady 150s bullets to try now before changing to any more powders brands or reducing your rifles free bore. Components can and do change how a weapon preforms as you know. Although we like to think only powder is the main culprate to a poor shooting gun when in reality brass -bullets-primers heat or lack of. All influence cartridge accuracy.
BTW Thanks for the prior clarity. Good luck with your endeavor to get that Montgomery Wards Rifle Shoot'in right with your reloads ckpj99.

When I bought a 336 for my son it was not accurate at all even with a scope. I read somewhere that if the barrel band is too tight that it affects accuracy. I loosened the band and the groups immediately shrank to 1.5" at 100 yards. The forend was a little loose but I called Marlin and they said a little play in the forend was no big deal.

Sure Shot - Thanks! I've been on the look out for those Hornady bullets for months. As soon as I'm able to get some, I'll let you know how the tests go.

cdbeagle - luckily that's not something I have to worry about. Some older Marlins had an endcap on the foreend instead of a barrel band. It would make sense that adjusting the band would affect accuracy. Here's a pic of the other style - http://www.ballistics101.com/images/rifle/marlin336.jpg
