Shooting Chrony

Is the company that makes the folding chronograghs ShootingChrony still in business? They are out of stock everwhere and do not answer their phone. I get a recording saying the office is only open 9-5 eastern time, but I have called a couple of times in the morning and afternoon and nobody answers.
 
The failure to answer the phone doesn't sound good, but a lot of shooting equipment is niche market companies with only two or three employees, so if they lose someone or they go to a trade show somewhere, they can have trouble handling things. A notice on the web site would be helpful, though.

I see Midway says "Backorder OK" on these chronographs. You can get an F1 on Amazon that is in stock. Midsouth has the Beta version in stock. Bruno has the archery and paintball versions in stock. You could probably call any of these companies and ask if they know what is happening at Shooting Chrony.
 
I hope they are still in business. I have one and it's very simple to use, unfold and shoot--almost. I would be happier if it just read velocity each shot, I can write it down myself and don't have to go back and read the directions, I don't use it but every couple years if that often. I'd rather be shooting.
 
Does anyone have experience with a Pact 1xp chronogragh? If so good or bad. If anyone has one how long is the cable that connects the skyscreens to the readout display?
 
I bought a Shooting Chroney Beta. I try ed to use it for over 10 years and it always gave me trouble. Sunny days forget it, nothing but ERRORS. I'm actually glad I shot it with my .243. I now have a much cheaper Caldwell and it actually works. hdbiker

@ hdbiker - try taking a piece of foam board to make a "roof" that fits over the existing sunshades. I attach mine with velcro. You can even make side pieces, sure helps mine of bright days

I just had a Shooting Chrony rebuilt at the factory about a month ago. They didn't say anything about going ot of business.

They have a website. Ask them.
 
I have the Alpha , never shot the actual unit, but I have shot a crap ton of the sun shade rods when testing handgun off hand ! I have a bunch of pre cut 5mm rods as spares !

My Beta Master did the same thing.
Learned i needed to set it up further away. Muzzle blast was messing with it.
I would have offered to buy yours. But not with a bullet hole in it. ;)
 
Shooting Chronys are VERY fussy with light conditions. IME, the best and most condistient reads will be on a brighter overcast day and no sun shades. In the sun you will have read errors. Low sun angle is also an issue, as well as passing sun and clouds.
 
Yes the shooting chrony's are light sensitive. Especially in regions with low hanging sun. What can really help is to cut out the appropriate size piece of cardboard (small) and slip right in front of the "eyes". Much easier than trying to build an umbrella, or only shooting in shade.

I read reviews first and that made me avoid the SC brand. I bought the referenced item and like it alot. I recall I paid extra for Bluetooth kit a couple of years ago. No eye-strain; just look at your phone.

I have recently purchased a Magnetospeed V3, but as great as it is, it has some limitation issues in certain circumstances with respect to shooting Black Powder rifle, or handgun. I still actually use my Chrony as it's the only solution to most handgun configurations when you can't clamp the Magnetospeeds' bayonet to the barrel. I did notice that there is a FPS descrepiency when I had past Chrony data , then re-tested with the Magnetospeed andI observed that the magnetospeed data seemed to be about 30 fps faster than the chrony's data.
 
The other alternative is the Labradar, which I've come to like a good deal. Nothing between the muzzle and the target and nothing attached to the gun to affect accuracy nodes.

I'd guess that the Magnetospeed is the more accurate data - it is measured at the muzzle instead of several feet downrange, and the Magnetospeed has been tested to be quite accurate. The Chrony has a short baseline between the two screens which magnifies any error in the positioning of the screens. The Chrony is a compact and useful chronograph, but the compact design loses a bit in accuracy compared to chronographs with a longer baseline.
