Shiney guns?

I prefer stainless in everything. I am kind of obsessive compulsive with keeping my guns looking good and when finish wears off just from holster wear it drives me nuts. Also I can get almost any scratch out of stainless with either polishing compound or the right scothbrite pads. Have no interest in spending $200 down the road to get a gun reblued.

At one time my preference was nickle or SS, now just blued is great with rubber grips. Kind of like a gun that looks used but cared for. Main thing is it must be accurate and comfortable to shoot. :)

Here is my Harem of shiny handguns,,,

This is my Harem...

Jezebel is a Smith & Wesson Model 629, 6" barrel in .44 Magnum.

Brighid is a Smith & Wesson Model 686, 6" barrel in .357 Magnum.

Morgana is a Smith & Wesson Model 67, 4" barrel in .38 Special.

Lilith is a Smith & Wesson Model 63, 4" barrel in .22 LR.

Loves my shiny ladies. :D

My wife thinks that I am attracted to shiney guns, I am like a Racoon I pick it up and I can't put it down for anything. I only have 4 stainless guns a Springfield 45 ACP loaded, S&W 868, S&W model 60 and a S&W 642ct in brushed stainless & alumium. I like stainless, I also like casehardened, and deep blue.

A nice glossy polished blue is my favorite as far as looks go, but I can appreciate the low maintenance of stainless too. For a long time, I didn't like the look of nickle as I thought it was just too "blingy" (I still do in many cases), but I've come around to the point that I appreciate a nice nickel finish on the right gun.

Neither :) (very worn blue). Wear on a single action to me is a good thing!

Though mostly a deep Smith or old Colt blue fan over the years, like the OP in my advancing years I've been unexpectedly drawn toward the gloss stainless--at least for admiring and woods'ing utility.

Also nicely set off with some jet-black ebonies. +1 glossy stainless can be a great imitation of nickel but a lot easier to keep looking nice over the years.

When pressed, I think I'm viscerally still mostly a quality blue fan, but do find myself with a few more shiny stainless' than I ever expected. Practical regular carry? Lo-glare satin stainless S&W 65LS (LadySmith) or matte blue (dark gray) .40 auto.

My favorite is Colt electroless nickel /aka/ Coltguard.

It is a soft shiny that photos don't do justice to. You have to see it and hold it and turn it over and see how it catches and diffuses light.

I like shiny guns, but not all of them. I think a 1911 reaaly looks terrific in bright nickel or a deep, highly polished blue. Some snubbies look amazing in bright nickel, and nothing is prettier than a royal blue Python. Of course that's just my opinion.

Although I've owned a number of them over the years, I only have one shiny gun at the moment, this custom Colt 1911A1 Compact, it's my off duty piece.

Geez!

It's rare that I see a gun that will stun me. That one sure does!

I learned you shouldn't carry a shiney gun for ccw, a light flash could let people know its coming.

Yeah silly but I heard it before.

I'm a traditionalist. Give me shiny blue and nice wood.
OK, knock off the wood comments!
But like you, I'm liking stainless alot now.
I don't care for two toned. Didn't like on cars in the 50's-60's and still don't.
Guess I've just become a crmudgeon.

"Get off my lawn you little bastadges!"
Could be my new sig line, eh?

I prefer blued.

Also I dont own many guns (and never will, sell what I dont need and I dont need much) so extra time cleaning is not a big deal.

WC145 has that Colt been re-blued, or did it come from the factory that way? Either way, it is one of the best blue jobs I have ever seen.

It has been refinished, it started life as a plain, parkerized 1991A1 Compact. Clark's gave it their Meltdown package in '98 and reparkerized it. The finish was showing a lot of wear so I had the polish and reblue and some other work done on it this spring.

I think people overestimate the amount of care needed to keep a blued gun looking good. I live near the salty air and I've never had a problem.

That being said I think most Smith and Wesson revolvers as well as any 1911 looks pretty good in stainless or nickle. Especially nickle snubs.

That is an 8" Python, not mine. I do have a 4" e nick python as well as a 4" e nick Diamondback; both "cold dead fingers" guns to me. All I have is a phone camera which sucks especially for this kind of photo.

The most affordable revolver with that finish is a Colt Trooper or Lawman.

If you look at one next to a stainless revolver, the e nickel is the prettier gun.

This is not a good photograph because of the glare but it does show how an e nickel 6" Python almost glows in a light.
