Shield Feed Ramp Problem

That feedramp looks awful.

If you want to polish for sure feeding a 400 grit polish is all that's necessary !!! For a feed ramp polishing should be parallel to the bore axis !! A dowel , 400 grit paper ,by hand is the proper way.

That ain't polishing that's removing material with 400 grit paper.
Polishing is a soft q-tip and non abrasive compound.

BTW I polish all my ramps with a q-tip and simichrome + elbow grease.

This is my carry gun, I don't depend on a shovel to save my life. Tool marks from the machining process are one thing, actual divots in the feed ramp are a whole other story. Also I consider the feed ramp one of the most integral parts of the gun for reliable feeding, not something I want to take chances on. I have owned over a dozen handguns, and have never seen a feed ramp look like mine before. My hard earned money went into this gun, I should not have to settle on a feed ramp with divots in it, it's clearly not the norm

My question is with the barrel were there any malfunctions because of the feed ramp?? If no issues were present then what's the problem??

This is interesting because I bought a new Shield 9mm yesterday and it has almost identical marks on the feed ramp. put 100 rds through it today with no problem. Leads me to think this is an intentional part of the design. seems odd though, not that I'm worried about it. I love the gun.

Waymore-

You've expressed my view as well.

I've now put 250 trouble-free rounds through the firearm and have no present intention of sending the barrel or firearm back to S&W, or even to call them.

Someone here or on another forum also posted they'd shot 1500 rounds or so through their Shield too, with similar machine marks/divots.

For me, making something out of what appears to be a cosmetic issue that may or may not be part of the design would be over-reacting. If I carried every day and knew of a clear and present identifiable threat against me personally and not a general random act, I might be concerned enough to call S&W about it.

Mine has them on the bottom area as well . None in the middle of the ramp , well maybe but not really . I can see something there but just barely . I have about 350rds through mine using three different ammo's and four different mags , not one problem so far .

In posts #20 and #12 the same "divots" seem to be shown as well.

They also show why they would be there.

Folks may want to take a look at any Shields they see in stores.

It looks to be a part of the design.

Not part of the design, just very poor machine work and even worse quality assurance.

I'd send it back. It will help them fix their systems.

Just got the Shield back today. They replaced the barrel under warranty and the feed ramp looks perfect on this one. Kudos to S&W for making it right, I dealt with them once before and their customer service always seems to be top notch. Turnaround was a month, and as I mentioned before I sold my other carry guns to help fund an AR build, so if this experience has taught me anything it's to always have a spare around. I have been lugging my Beretta M9A1 around this past month and it has been a PIA to say the least.
