Shall we go after NBC?

DC, I watch that show!

But then again, I argue with my car's radio for fun....so I'm not above watching a show just for the fun of getting my blood pressure up....

Anyway, I'm in if we can choose a single company on which to focus. I volunteer to talk the local gun shops into putting up signs and talking to customers, if possible.

Slowpoke, I agree with your idea of going after a division of GE as a doublepunch to NBC. But how is the GE corporation structured? Will going after, say, the appliance division financially hurt the entire corporation? That's the reason I thought going after a smaller company might be more effective. I used CarX as an example, but they may be owned by a large conglomerate as well.

Lots of details to iron out here, but I'm glad that you folks think it's a good idea.
If we can pick off a few advertisers one at a time, the CEO's at NBC just might give Brokaw his marching orders.

GE, We bring good things to life!.

Hey, GE'swho makes the Minigun, right.

They also mad(k)e engines for the military, and commercial sector.
Amongst a horde of other things.

Whilst I was in the Air Farce, I worked on the AN/ALQ-119 radar jammer system, made by Westinghouse.
Those nice, gentle people who make refrigerators, and washing machines for the soccer Mom's.
Hell, Singer even made the flight simulators...

If there was a point to my post it was this, Many, or most major commercial durable goods manufacturers also have BIG gov contracts cooking as well.
But, how much can they afford to loose from the commercial sector before they feel the itch, and capitulate? I say let's boycott systematically.

Another thing mentioned above...
Look at the soaps, as a fer instance, they advertise uhh, well soaps and stuff right? Well, write them, and send them a UPC from a competitors product, elaborating why they're hearing from you, and not getting your dollars.

I think this is an idea who's time has come..
Thanks Monkeyleg.

Best Regards,
Don

Donny, soaps are sort of what I had in mind.
And I came up with the idea of Kimberly Clark
as a target. Everybody uses toilet paper, right? (I hope so). Anyway, here's the skinny on Kimberly Clark. Annual sales $13 billion.
Advertising budget $336 million. Products:
Kleenex, Cottonelle, Viva (my favorite for polishing my bike :( ), Scott, Huggies Diapers, Baby Wipes, Pullups, Goodnites, Little Swimmers, Kotex, New Freedom, Lightdays, Security, Depend, Poise, Wypall,
Kimwipes, Surpass, and Neenah Paper. Market
share by product type: diapers 33%, baby wipes 34%, training youth and swim pants 81%,
facial tissue 51%, paper towels 12%, bathroom
tissue 29%, feminine pads 27%, and incontinence care products 52%.

And here's the draft of my letter:

Mr. Wayne Sanders
Chief Executive Officer
Kimberly Clark Corporation
World Headquarters
351 Phelps Drive
Irving, TX 75038

Dear Mr. Sanders:

There are currently nearly 80 million gun owners in the United States,
of which I am one. Roughly 40% of all households have firearms. Given
the sheer size of the gun-owning population, one would think that the
news media would treat us with some degree of respect. Sadly, this is not
so. ABC, NBC and CBS have engaged in distortion, omission, and
outright lies when reporting upon the gun control debate. This is not
personal conjucture: reputable, non-partisan media research
organizations report that the major news outlets skew their reporting of
the issue toward the advocates of gun control by a ratio of 10 to 1.

Millions of us have petitioned the media outlets to provide more balanced
reporting on the issue, but to no avail. Apparently, for the media,
revenue trumps objectivity.

As paid advertisers, Kimberly Clark Corporation and other companies
are unwitting participants in this media bias, of which NBC is arguably
the most guilty. Therefore, I am with this letter announcing that I am
joining a boycott of all Kimberly Clark products until such time as your
company ceases all advertising on NBC. Please know that I bear no
malice toward Kimberly Clark, but merely want NBC to present a fair
discussion of the gun issue so that the American public can be more
educated when they assess various proposals put forth by their elected
representatives.

You will be receiving many copies of this letter, because there are tens
of millions of gun owners who are as frustrated with the media as am I.
This boycott of Kimberly Clark products will end when your company
ceases to advertise on NBC, or when NBC presents the issue in a
balanced manner. If you do indeed cease advertising on NBC, you may
rest assured that we will resume buying Kimberly Clark products, and
will move our boycott to another NBC advertiser.

It is my hope that you will seriously consider the potential impact of this
boycott when you meet with your marketing departments and
advertising agencies.

Yours truly,

So, whatchyall think?

BTW, NBC had gross revenues last year of $5.79 billion, and gross profits of $1.5 billion. Assume that Kimberly Clark devotes 1/2 of their ad expenditures to television and you can see that NBC's profit would be seriously impacted if KC pulled their advertising.

I like the idea of going after the sponsers.
If there would be any way of changing the bias it would be to hit them in their pocketbooks. The only news I will watch anymore is Fox News Network. They seem to be the most balanced news on the air.
My wife stopped letting watch the other news, seems she hated me yelling and throwing things at the TV on a nightly basis. Truth is, getting upset over TV news is kinda like taking a leak in a dark suit, it gives you a nice warm feeling but nobody notices. The E-mails and letters I have sent to the networks just bring the usual pound sand responses. It's time to spring into action---Count me in.

Thanks, guys. I'll do up a cover sheet to explain to the non-involved gun owners why they should take the time to sign the letter,
address an envelope and put a stamp on it.

I think I'll set these two pages up in Quark Express, and I can e-mail the files to you and you can take them to Kinkos to have copies printed out. Or, you can just type up your own and run off copies.

It's a busy week, so look for these by the weekend.

On a side note, I mentioned this to my wife, and she said she'll buy whatever she damn well pleases. That means I'll have to return the Kleenex every time she buys it to get another brand.
