Shall we go after NBC?

We're probably all pretty much in agreement here that one of the biggest problems we face is a media that's biased against us. We've written letters to the anchors, the CEO's, but to no avail. Has anyone tried a boycott of the advertisers?

NBC is not the leader in news viewership, but it's certainly as anti, or more, than any other news outlet. What if we were to target
one of their advertisers for a boycott? It should be a smaller, retail company such as, say, CarX Mufflers. In our mass mailing to the board of directors of CarX, we explain that there are nearly 80 million gun owners who rightly feel that the news is slanted against them. We state that we will no longer
do business with CarX until such time as 1)
CarX ceases to advertise on any NBC program, or 2)NBC provides even and fair coverage of the gun issue. We further state that, if CarX ceases to advertise on NBC, we will end the boycott and move on to another company.

I don't recall ever having seen such a suggestion, but please feel free to correct me. There are thousands of potential CarX customers right here on TFL and, thanks to Algore's wonderful invention of the internet,
we can turn those thousands into millions of boycotters.

Any thoughts? I'm just completely fed up and want to strike back.

That is a damn good idea. The citibank thing worked extremely well, I wouldn't mind giving it a shot. We would need major support to stir interest however. Lets see what others think. This is a real avenue for us to use & given our citibank record we may be able to have an reasonable impact.

I'm ready, too. Consider the choice carefully, though. I don't relish going to a gunshow with 5,000 people who have boycotted soap or deodorant.

Let's flex out muscles.

Count me in. I have been mostly boycotting network tv since 1990 anyways.

I watch
hbo 1,2,&3 and max 1& 2 and have gotten used to commercial free tv.

When I try to watch network tv, it has to be a really great movie to make me spend 2 and a half hours to see a hour and a half movie.

Usually, I can't stand all the commercials
and switch back to premium channel just as
soon as another good movie comes on.

I get my news from the internet and not the lies from tv.

Shall we decide which company is to be the first recipient of our mail? It will work best if everyone targets just the one company.

Just like a herd of gazelle....pick one, separate it from the herd and the pack will savage it

Perhaps it would be better to employ an economic boycott against the target's products?

I would suggest that the target is General Electric (NBC's owner), not just NBC, just as the target is Tomkins PLC, not just Smith & Wesson.

What do you all think?

To borrow and expand upon DC's analogy, General Electric is the gazelle, NBC is the off hind leg. If we intend to feast on gazelle, let us aim for the vitals...

So who is the first target ? We will need some major support but a few e-mails can drum that up. I like the idea of hitting the major owners like GE, which i didn't know owned NBC. I also don't have any problems boycotting the advertisers, especially the ones involved in anti support. So are we going to try to get the ball rolling ?

Seems to me that boycotting GE products is obvious, but I think another advertiser should be included because GE is NBC and we need someone else who pays GE advert revenue to complain as well

I volunteer to research GE brand names, as I researched Tomkins brand names.

DC, what you say makes sense. I suggest the target be a vendor of consumer products that buys ad time on The Left Wing, I mean The West Wing, arguably the worst of NBC's prime-time tripe.

An excellent opportunity presents itself.

Tom Brokaw is traveling around the country pushing his book and telling the WW II generation they saved the world. They did. Someone needs to ask Brokaw how they would have done it without guns.

Started research at www.ge.com/businesses.htm.

GE Business Units

Aircraft Engines
Appliances
Aviation Services
Capital Services
Commercial Equipment Financing
Commercial Finance
Employers Reinsurance Corporation
GE Equity
Financial Assurance
Global Consumer Finance
Global eXchange Services
Industrial Systems
Lighting
Medical Systems
Mortgage Insurance Corporation
NBC
Plastics
Power Systems
Real Estate
GE Supply
Structured Finance Group
Transportation Systems
Vendor Financial Services

I will research each unit to determine if it generates any consumer products or services, and report the results here.

I'd like to see who the top contributors for advertising there is at NBC during the show that was mentioned. I've never seen it but I'll take your word that it is real bad. I looked on their site but they have no info on their advertisers. I think we need to single out one or two companies to focus on & as time goes on hit various ones on every network until we get the point across, if we go too large at first we may sacrifice focus and accomplish less. I'll try to find out something on their advertisers again later. If we put the effort into thisit could certainly make a statement, at very least the propaganda machine may be exposed a little more which is always a good thing.

I will view, tape, and report on the Left Wing conditioning episode next week provided a TFL intervention team is on standby the morning after.
