Setting up a Mosin Nagant

Add a scope and be done!

If you shop around you can find a mount that will let you put a long eye relief scope on the gun without any drilling tapping etc. You have to dismantle the rear sight but it's not too hard. Keep all the pieces of the old rear sight so you can sell it as original later. Mount that sucker tight. Sight it in, and go hunting.

I wouldn't mind picking up a Mosin, if the LGS ever gets more in. I think I'd leave it stock. Just do a good cleaning and shoot it. I enjoy hand loading, and would enjoy experimenting there.

I recently saw a youtube video that showed a nice custom Mosin, and a bench rest session with available factory ammo. I looked and found it, but then saw a warning here that made me think I shouldn't print the web address in the forum???

Anyway, cut and paste this and googlle this, if you'd like to watch it:

Custom RSI MI-24C Mosin Nagant

I think the one shown above made by tobnpr is a great looking gun.

Haven't fired one of these, but I understand power is not a problem. MY plan would be to only shoot factory non-corrosive reloadable ammo, or buy some brass and roll my own.

But, one has to think about the fact that you can buy a basic bolt action, like a new Savage Axis XP II (or whatever the designation is) with the adjustable Accutrigger, and scoped and bore sighted for like $400-$475. If you are going to have a custom Mosin built, it'll be cool, but may not be as accurate as a new Axis.

Best (only) thing I've done to my Mosin is had it threaded for my silencer. Wow! Sooooo much better now. Turns that daw gone howitzer into a 22mag in report / recoil.

I thought it was against the law to hack up a nagant. Instead of hacking us up I'm a suing it's a 9130 go on a hunt for a m44 or m38. I love taking my m38 for a walk. It's nice and small and pretty accurate. And why would u want to put a diff stock on... the kick of a steel butt plate just feels so good.
