Seriously: Is there anyone who actually carries the S&W 500 4 inch for CCW?

Actually none other than John Ross of UC fame carries a 500 4" S&W daily in a smartcarry holster and has been doing it for well over a year. You would be suprised how fast he is on the draw with that thing.

Our local Sportsman's Warehouse carries the 4" .500 S&W in stock. Someone asked about it while I was nearby. The guy behind the counter said hunting guides buy them fairly regularly.

Some genius came in to my local range to qualify the handugn for his CCW. (In NV you have to show proficiency with the handgun before you can carry it.) It's a 30 round test (for 5-shot revolvers). 5 rounds right hand only, unsupported, at 3 yards. 5 round left hand only, unsupported, at 3 yards. 10 rounds shooter's choice, supported, at 5 yards. 10 rounds shooter's choice, supported, at 7 yards. They took his money, set him up at the range, then made him take the test shooting DOUBLE ACTION. :p

He wasn't very happy, but he passed.

Ask and ye shall receive.

Same at a shop in Bozeman. The owner sells a lot of Smiths of various ilk. He gets the 500s in pairs, both the 4- and 8-inch models. He's sold about 12 since they came out. I guess the heavier loads in the 4" model are "stout". ;) He also had a 12" version that was scoped and stayed in the store about two hours before it sold. BTW SGHOTH, that 500 in your pocket must be the AirWeight model, or else it would tear the pocket off your shirt. :D

I read once you could shoot a box and a half of .25ACP in the time it takes to fire one 500 S&W

Im holding my breath until they come out with the snub scandium 4 shot version of the .500 and .460.

SGHOTH, brilliant move to use the .500 to conceal your real concealed weapon! I am betting a Colt Combat Commander might peek out behind the Smith, if we wait and are quiet.

Another note on how to increase the capacity of the S&W 500 -- Put in 4 .500 rounds (enough to deal with most situations) and conceal a full size 9mm in the 5th chamber.

Best of both worlds ...
