Serial numbers: what do you do with them?

On the outside rickyrick appears to be a mild mannered reporter, but when trouble comes he ducks into the nearest phone booth and emerges as ...

Lol, I WAS an Oathkeeper, I promoted them pretty regularly. I was sharing their social media among other things. I would get followed to work and back. I would get random things shouted out to me when I had my windows down and in the parking lot.
I have since quit the Oathkeepers and cut all ties to the organization. Changed my online activities. Just not the kind of attention I needed in my life. It has since stopped.

But being a victim of crime taught me a few things. Keeping serial numbers easily accessible is the main thing.

I think a secure Dropbox is the key.

My collection is modest enough in size that I keep a Word document on my laptop with photos, serial number, and a short description of each firearm. I also record the circumstances and date of its acquisition so that my descendants remember the details on that inevitable day. A few of my guns are already second generation of ownership, and some of the others I have had for quite a while and my daughters and son-in-law would be interested in their history.

I print out a copy and keep it in my office safe, too, in case the laptop is stolen.

I have an EXCEL spreadsheet with SN's and descriptions and I put a hard copy in my bank safety-deposit box every so often as my collection changes. The next time I'm going to add a flash drive with pics.

Write down all of your guns? And the serial numbers? That's a great idea! I wish I had thought of that before my boat flipped over in the squall and all my guns sank....then I could at least remember what I had. But alas, gone without a trace.... :o
