Senator Ted Kennedy

..thank heaven that will I be me and not him, standing in front of God and accounting my life...thank heaven..and he is a wretched old man near the end of his..

good words S&W Junkie

...'there is no such thing as a New Democrat'....'there is no such thing as a New Democrat'....'there is no such thing as a New Democrat'.

Well, lessee: He upheld the good Kennedy name in the finest tradition by shagging, (supposedly) knocking up, and then drowning one of his staffers named Mary Jo Kopecne; he then topped it off by getting off scot-free.

His dad - Joe - must have looked on from Hell with teary-eyed pride.

No wonder Bill Clinton took the Kennedy gents as his role models... :D :D

Oh yes. Mr. Clinton even went so far as to vacation, at one point in his reign, on Martha's Vineyard, hobnobbing with the limousine liberals who summer there. IIRC, he rented a house belonging to a liar and coward by the name of Robert McNamara.

TK has consistently worked hard to destroy America over the course of his so called career. He's thick in more ways than one.

What Rebar said...

...especially in post #9

Either July 26th (Miss Kopechne's birthday) or July 17th (the anniversary of her tragic death) should be a national holiday - her passing, and the circumstances surrounding that untimely event, saved us forever from the prospect of "President Edward M. Kennedy".

I have a hunch that a lot of people who vote Republican are not so much pro-Republican as they are anti-Democrat. People like Kennedy have a lot to do with that.

Jart <--- Guilty as charged.

Well put, S&WJunkie

All joking aside, this innocent girl is dead, killed by Ted Kennedy's drunken driving, and criminal negligence in failing to rescue her.

Laura Bush has also killed with her car. What's your point?

Ted Kennedy does serve a vital role: He's seen as a joke by both sides of the aisle and hardly ever taken seriously; as a benefit to us all, he holds a seat that otherwise might be occupied by someone who could actually do some damage to this country...

Mrs. Bush ran stop sign in fatal crash

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Details in a 1963 accident report say that Laura Bush, then 17, ran a stop sign in the Texas crash that killed a friend in another car. The report, adding information to previous reports of the crash, was released to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Mrs. Bush now is the wife of Republican presidential nominee-to-be George W. Bush, the Texas governor.

''It was a very tragic accident that deeply affected the families and was very painful for all involved, including the community at large,'' said Mrs. Bush's spokesman, Andrew Malcolm. ''To this day, Mrs. Bush remains unable to talk about it.''

She did say in March, when asked at a campaign stop about the crash, ''I know this as an adult, and even more as a parent, it was crushing ... for the family involved and for me as well.''

There had been published accounts of the accident, but city officials had declined to release the records because those involved were under 18. The police report was released Wednesday in response to an open-records request that was submitted to Midland officials in March.

According to the two-page accident report, Laura Welch was driving her Chevrolet sedan on a clear night shortly after 8 p.m. on Nov. 6, 1963, when she drove into an intersection and struck a Corvair sedan driven by 17-year-old Michael Douglas.

Although previous news accounts have reported Douglas was thrown from the car and broke his neck, those details were not in the report.

The speed of Laura Bush's car was illegible on the report. The speed limit for the road was 55.

Laura Bush and her passenger, Judy Dykes, also 17, were taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries, according to an accident account printed at the time in the Midland Reporter-Telegram.

The police report indicates no charges were filed. That section of the report was left blank.

''As far as we know, no charges were filed,'' said Midland city attorney Keith Stretcher. ''I don't think it's unusual that charges weren't filed.''

"Laura Bush has also killed with her car. What's your point?"

You're comparing an accident Laura Bush had while running a stop sign when she was 17 years old to Teddy Kennedy drunk-driving right off a bridge with a sweet young thing in his car? Okay...

Hmm. Comparing an accident involving a 17-year-old high schooler with, oh, what, one year's driving experience to an episode involving a 37-year-old married United States Senator, partying at a rented cottage with a bunch of married men and a gaggle of single women, with none of the men's wives present, who abandons his hoped-for conquest to drown alone in an overturned car, fails to report the incident to police, and huddles with his advisors to concoct a cover story. Yeah.

:barf:

There's a big difference between a regular car accident, and what Kennedy did.

Plus, it's likely that the girl didn't die in the accident or drown, she most likely suffocated in the car hours afterwards, while he was crafting his alibi.

Rebar,

I stand corrected - although, of course, no autopsy was performed on the poor girl. Apparently, the diver who recovered her body believed she suffocated, rather than drowned.

NOT TRUE!! An autopsy WAS performed on Ms. Kopechne. About 1/4 cup of water was removed from her lungs post mortem, indicating she did NOT ingest much water while alive. She suffocated due to lack of fresh air, but did not drowned in the water.

All of this can be found in a book entitled, "Senatorial Priviledge", by Leo Damore.

Yes, you're right, of course. It's obvious that Kennedy did what he did not because he was a carousing, weak-willed drunk, but because he's a *Liberal*, right? No Republican would ever dream of driving drunk, or shirk any responsibility.

On the other hand, teenager or middle age wanna-be frat boy, incompetence knows no boundaries...

To others who have raised the question: I agree, stop signs on 55 mph highways is dumb...
