Selling my Bersa Thunder . . .

I used to have a good sized gun collection. In the late 90's I decided to sell off my collection and just keep a couple that I couldn't bear to lose. SoI did then in the last couple years I've decided to start it up again but limit the collection to 10/12 including rifles if possible. I'm at that limit now and there's still a couple I'd like to own but I'm going to try to keep to my promise. So if I want to buy something I'll have to sell something...We'll see.

I've reconsidered my stance on this.

I've reconsidered my stance on this.

A few years back I was in my "Never sell any gun" stage,,,
Now that I'm almost 66 years old I've reconsidered that stance.

For example, I really like owning rimfire centerfire matching pairs of guns,,,
I obtained a well used 4" Colt Trooper Mk III in .357 Magnum,,,
I didn't seek the gun out on purpose,,,
It sort of fell into my lap.

A year or so later I acquired (by design) a 6" Colt Trooper Mk III in .22 LR,,,
I wanted the pair and they do look great in their nice case.

I hunted bunnies with the .22 for one season,,,
But in recent years they have both been gathering dust.

I see no reason to keep the guns as they have no sentimental value to me,,,
And since I'm only 461 days (but who's counting) from retirement,,,
I surely could use the 4-digit price tag I could get for them.

I doubt very seriously that I would have any sellers remorse,,,
Mainly because they are mere possessions, not heirlooms.

So I'm on the camp that says,,,
Go ahead and sell any guns that don't bring joy to your life.

Actually as the years go by I've taken that as a new mantra,,,
I'm de-cluttering all of the "stuff" that I have accumulated over the years.

Some of my fiery-arm collection will someday be designated as "clutter" to be sold off.

Not everything will be sold though,,,
Probably half of my collection will be given away.

Some of the guns will be gifted away before I go,,,
Others will be disseminated in my will.

But that's just me,,,
I expect you all will come to your own decisions as well.

I'll sell a handgun if it doesn't suit me but that's after a couple of years at least.

I've made the mistake of selling a gun that I don't shoot as much or for something else I wanted at the time FAR too many times.

My first handgun (Rock Island 1911)
Several Beretta 92's
Lots of Revolvers (I still weep for my 686)
A Glock 21
A Smith and Wesson Sport gen 1 (not a high dollar gun but boy was it sweet)

The list goes on... All guns I wish I had now.

Hang on to it. Maybe the Sig needs repairs someday, you'll be glad you have the Bersa then...

If I don't like a gun, I'll sell or trade it. If I like a gun, I'll almost always keep it even if I don't shoot it much. I'm an accumulator, rather than a collector.

I recently sold my grandfathers craftsman table saw for $75.
I was tired of fighting it, upgrading it would vost as much as a better saw, and decided the valuable thing he left to me was enough knowledge to use the thing in the first place.

I sold one grandfathers Colt revolver and the others Savage auto. Both had finish issues taking them out of the really collectible category and both were for various reasons not guns I would shoot.
I've sold most of the guns I have bought. All but a few of the ones I have left I would sell if it wasn't such a pain. No way I'd be able to own and try the number of guns I have if I didn't sell/trade things I didn't shoot or like.

Mine are all shooters, some more than others. But, if I simply don't like the way I shoot them they're gone. They're tools, if you don't enjoy them, get rid of them.
