Seller's remorse

I have traded, gifted, and sold a few guns over the years. There are a few more I would not mind parting ways with. The first gun I sold was a Sig P245. For those who aren't familiar with that model, it is a compact .45 acp that is close to the size of the P228. I had a P228 and a P229 that I shot very well. The P245 and I just didn't get along. I ended up trading it for a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special and could not be happier! :D

I gave my cousin my HK USP in .40 S&W for his wedding present. I kept having nightmares that I was pulling the trigger in a self defense situation and all it did was bend. He is more like a brother to me and he likes the gun. I gave one of my best friends my Glock 26. I was staying at his place in Virginia for business. It was a pain to fly back and forth with it so I just left it with him. I ended up getting a Kahr PM9 so I told him to keep it.

I recently sold my Springfield Armory XDs in .45 acp. While I liked the idea of a .45 acp in a very small package and I liked the grip safety, I hated the trigger. I got the Powder River Precision trigger kit for it, but it caused light strikes. Sold the gun to a friend and haven't looked back.

As for guns that I have that I will probably part ways with (eventually), that includes my Kahr MK9, possibly my Kahr PM9 (since I bought a Glock 43), my Sako 75 in 30.06 (never took up hunting like I planned), my Remington 870 Marine Coat (especially since I bought a Keltec KSG), and maybe my Colt AR-15 HBAR (I have a S&W M&P Sport).

In my book, those reasons are honorable exceptions to the "rule". Also acceptable exceptions are the times I might be the lucky recipient of someone else's good will.

I never liked plastic guns to begin with, especially CZ's. They are supposed to be metal - steel actually Not clunky. You really did the right thing getting rid of it. But your remorse reminded me of the last Anshutz 22 I sold. That was pure stupid, so I understand your dilemma. You have a lot of CZ alternatives now though, as well another PO 7. Tanfoglio, BH 6p something?, plus the Tristars. The Sig 2022 even maybe? Good luck adopting something new!

I buy & sell guns, not as much as I used to, but still do to some degree.

I've had some seller's remorse but I got over it. It'll pass............;)

My rules when it come to selling guns!

Rule #1 never sell any guns...................................ever!
Rule#2 see rule number one!
:D

Just to be the odd one out....

My rules..

Do I like it, yes or no.
If no - then it goes, and no regerts...
(Life is far to short to have investments tied up in something of no value)

If yes, then..
How much will it cost to replace it?

Remorse?

Guns come and go here, if I'm not enjoying shooting it off it goes to fund something else.
The only one I sort of regret is the S&W 640, no dash. 38SPL.
Of all the P08s, Walthers, Rugers, k98ks, M1903A3s and such I have no remorse. They went to good homes, I guess. If being stuffed in a dark dry safe is a better place?

The problem with the "they come, and they go", or "if I am not using it" philosophy is that as human, thinking beings, our thoughts, and minds change. Not so crutial with a common, easily replaced firearm. But with something harder to find I have many regrets about getting rid of "guns I didn't use". I do, and have given myself exceptions to rule #1. Mostly trading a duplicate firearm for one I really wanted. Leaving me with at least one example of what I traded, and a new treasure.:D

I have never sold a pistol yet. I have more than a few but less than many.

I really like all my pistols and get enjoyment owning them. Some of them I may not shoot for a while but I enjoy having them and the ability to shoot them when I get the desire. Most of them would be somewhat difficult to replace but not that they are really valuable. For instance I have some German made SIGs and an older .40 P229 that has a German frame and also my Gen 2 Glock 19 that I have owned since new. My Walther PPS 9MM is the original one and now very difficult to find new. Almost all my pistols, other than thee German SIGs, were purchased new and almost all still have factory warranty.

I would not mind having a couple of "trading" pistols but living in Illinois makes that difficult because of their stupid 72 hour waiting period. It's not like I could just swap a pistol with someone else at the range plus/minus cash if appropriate. I envy those that can do such.

For now I have been content with what I have for a while now other than wanting a SIG P320 Compact but in no hurry to get that. I have a smaller safe but there is room for a couple more. When I am gone my Son can have whatever the Wife does not want and he can keep what he wants and sell the rest. At that point it does not matter to me.

It seems as of now us firearm owners have a reprieve on our Second Amendment Rights but that can certainly change within the next four years again. IMO having a few or so extra firearms is not a ad idea for a firearm enthusiast assuming such does not detriment their financial obligations and goals. A new president in 2020 could bring us back to the dark days again and having extra firearms to use for trading for other firearms, parts, and ammo could be very desirable.

Hey RobK........ the gun I most regret selling was also my Sig 220 stainless....!!!! bad decision.... they've only went up in value

If a gun can still be bought new, I've not had remorse. It's the ones that can't simply be replaced by going to the local shop that I hate selling. And even then, if I ever wanted another badly enough, the internet is a big place.

Sold one once, to a family member. It ended up having some issues. I bought him a new one and the other was returned to me. Still sitting in my safe, unfixed.
I go through phases of what I shoot the most. So may as well keep what I have even if I'm not shooting them at present.

Every gun I've sold was either to trade up to a different I liked better or because I just didn't care for it anymore EXCEPT when I was flat ass broke I sold my S&W 686P for the price of a used Taurus (I really don't miss being a Harley mechanic) I need to replace that piece soon! And maybe a matching 617 as well :D

I've sold a few over the years. The one I regret the most was a Colt Tropper III. In the last 30 years I've never sold another regardless how often I shoot it. Unless finances require it I'll never sell another.
