Seller& Bellot Ammo

Yes I did call Ruger to verify what ammo they frown upon. I made that phone call this afternoon around 3:45 p.m. As I stated they did indeed mention Sellier&Bellot as one to stay away from. I would imagine it would have to with how dirty it is. Wolf was also frowned upon because of it's dirtiness. The reason I had made this call was because I had heard they frowned on Wolf was because it was loaded HOT. Needless to say, after they answered my question I had about Wolf, I asked if there were any others. Thus they answered: Sellier&Bellot, 3D, American Ammunition in .40cal and .45acp(due to weak cases).

I have used it some. I had 3 failures of rounds to go off (out of 45) with my kel-tec P-32 last weekend, ran them thru again and they worked the 2nd time. I looked at the primers before i shot them again and compared to others, didn't seem to really be any difference in the strike. My kel-tec hasn't had a problem with light strikes with federal hydra-shok or silvertip (nor 100 previous rounds of s&b), only about 200 total rounds thru it though.

I also rented a glock 26 at the range the same weekend and had one round of s&b 9 MM not go off. again, it worked the 2nd time thru.

I read on the kel-tec forum that s&b may have harder primers than most american manufacturers. this may account for it. can anyone comment on this?

Walt Sherrill:

You are certainly right about the durability of the Ruger Pistol and that is why I am gravitating towrds them as I get older. I think about how I've felt in the past when I shelled out 700+ sheckels for a handgun and it had to be sent back to the factory after a short period of time and once even before the pistol was fired after leaving the facotry!

You are right about the pressures of the S&B versus the +P and +P+ 9mm loads. I don't know what it was about those S&B loads I ran through the Kahr but something was not right. I ran 300 rounds through the Kahr the day I bought it new and afterwards, the extractor and other components were wrecked. Could have coincidence in all fairness.

S&B is loaded to CID standards which are recognized in the Ruger manual. I plan to err on the side of caution and avoid the stuff henceforth.

Thanks for keeping me straight.

I have almost only used S&B ammo in my CZ-75.
I think it is a bit dirty, but I can assure you that it is consistant. Fired 5 over my cronograph and it came out with a ES of 2 m/s and SD of 0! :) Their .38 special and .357 mag wasn't as consistant, but still not bad.
Ok, 5 is maybe not statistically enough as proof of something, but I know that it shoots good in my gun.
Only have to fix the problem with the launching platform ;)

FWIW, I've shot several cases of S&B in .45, 9mm, and .380 thru a variety of SIGs, Berettas, H&K, & Kimbers with no problems. It seems consistent, accuarte, and a bit dirty. I think it's great for practice ammo.

I've fired several hundred rounds of their 32 ACP through my Kel-Tec P-32. A hot round, totally reliable, and cheap enough to practice with.

Given that I like to carry what I practice with, it's my carry ammo.
