One thing about seeing the original documents is determing their age. I have some old documents that go back almost thirty years or less. It seems that many of them start to yellow, and I think this has something to do with the acids in the paper. In some cases, they may even get a little brittle.

So, if no one will not or cannot come up with the originals, then whole thing is bogus IMHO.
 
You're right moa, one can determine the age of the paper and ink, but also the type of device used to create the document and most likely the brand/manufacturer. IIRC, the FBI is quite qdept at that sort of thing, right down to the particular machine, IF they have the original document.

Anyone with a scanner and a decent printer can lift a signature off one doucment and paste it on to another. The ONLY way to verify the authenticity is from the original, anything less is just an opinon.
 
The dumbest mistake is the timing of the "missed physical". Back then, in the Texas Air guard at least, flight physicals were ALWAYS scheduled at the pilots birthday, plus or minus a couple of days. GW's B'day AIN'T in May!! Idiots didn't do much research on their forgeries, did they.
 
there were IBM Selectic typewriters around at that time that would do a superscript (e.g. for a footnote, but it would have been in the same size font (i.e 10 or 12 pt. Courier) offset vertically 1/2 a line, not in a smaller point size underlined, as in the document in question.

Yap, but so could the manuals, with just a half-line movement (one manual click). So the only issue is the size of the superscript, not the placement.
 
It's so great to see Rather stomp his feet and insist that we are all missing the bigger point. It's Rather who is missing the point -- few undecided voters care about the whole National Guard issue.
